ATLANTA, Georgia, November 21. AFTER three days of competition, the Georgia Tech swimming and diving squads finished out the GT Invite with much success, Sunday, at the GT Aquatic Center. The men's team took fifth place earning 548 points while the women's team finished sixth with a point total of 280.<\/p>\n
"The weekend we went up against some of the best competition in the ACC and the country," said head coach Courtney Shealy Hart, "and we had a ton of success. There were many career and season bests set and even an NCAA B qualifying score this weekend. Today was a great end to our fall season and I am looking forward to the spring semester."<\/p>\n
Lexi Weber shone on the day, and the weekend, for the Jackets setting her third personal best time at the meet, this time in the 100-meter. Her B-Final victory time of 50.12 was a career best, NCAA B qualifying time, and the second-fastest 100-Free time in Georgia Tech history.<\/p>\n
Also excelling for the Jackets over the course of the meet and on Sunday was freshman Anton Lagerqvist who finished in third place in the 200-Breast with a season and career best time of 2:01.06 which also ranks fifth in the GT record books. Matt Vaughan, who also competed in the A-Final of the 200-Breast, took sixth place advancing four spots in the final and shaving three seconds off of his preliminary time for the sixth place finish.<\/p>\n
On the diving side of things, Chris Khosravi was outstanding in the platform dive. The sophomore earned a second place showing recording 353.50 total points in the final round, a near school record, jumping three competitors in the final round. Brandon Makinson earned a 14th place finish with a score of 231.80. On the women's side, Ashley Hardy (19th place, 167.15) and Sarah Roethel (24th place, 103.75) competed well in their first platform diving competition ever.<\/p>\n
"Chris is a platform specialist and this is where we expect him to shine," said head diving coach John Ames, "and that is just what he has done today. I am pretty happy with the way things went this weekend. There were some events where we could have done better, but I am glad to see that Brandon did well in the 1-meter and Chris shone in the platform. As far as Ashley, it is a great experience for what she is going to have to deal with at ACCS and the NCAA Zone Diving meet."<\/p>\n
Tech's women's 400-Free Relay team of Weber, Kate Riley, Jessie Mason and Keren Siebner came across fifth in a time of 3:25.07, the third fastest time in school history. On the men's side, Eric Chiu, Jeffrey Phillips, Travis Wagner and Garrett Robberson came across sixth, also with a top-10 school time.<\/p>\n
This meet marks the end of competition for the Jackets in the fall semester. They will return to the pool in January with a dual meet with Florida on January 7 at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n
