Romanian Olympian\u00a0Robert Glinta<\/strong><\/a> has announced that he will not be competing in the upcoming 2017 Romanian International Swimming Championships, nor will he compete in the World Championships in Budapest this summer.<\/p>\n

Glinta, an Olympic finalist in the men’s 100 back at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, will be sitting out of the meets due to\u00a0“overuse leading to unfavorable results of medical tests.” He will be out of swimming for several months and will return to the pool once his medical problems have been resolved.<\/p>\n

Camelia Alina Potec<\/strong>, president of the Romanian Swimming Federation, explained,<\/p>\n

“Our goal for Robert Glinta is a successful participation in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020. Therefore, still in the first year of the new Olympic cycle, we can sacrifice any competition for him to recover to normal parameters.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Glinta added,<\/p>\n

“I’ll try to do my best to get back as quickly into the pool, but this depends on how you answer the recovery period. For the end of the year my goal to particpate in the European Championships in short course stands. Of course I regret that I can not participate at the World Championships in Budpaest, where the scale had already achieved, but we must look at things in a broader time horizon.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In addition to being an Olympic finalist, Glinta also boasts the title of Junior World Champion after winning the 100 back at the 2015 Junior World Championships. Additionally, he holds the World Junior Record in the 100 back SCM at a 50.77 and five Romanian National records.<\/p>\n
