{"id":256860,"date":"2017-05-19T15:48:47","date_gmt":"2017-05-19T22:48:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=256860"},"modified":"2017-05-19T16:33:31","modified_gmt":"2017-05-19T23:33:31","slug":"ashley-twichell-wins-u-s-womens-10k-by-more-than-a-minute-headed-to-budapest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ashley-twichell-wins-u-s-womens-10k-by-more-than-a-minute-headed-to-budapest\/","title":{"rendered":"Ashley Twichell Wins U.S. Women&#8217;s 10k By More Than a Minute, Headed to Budapest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ashley Twichell\u00a0<\/strong>pulled away from the field in the women&#8217;s 10k at the U.S. Open Water National Championships at Castaic Lake, winning by almost a\u00a0minute over the two most recent Olympic silver medalists in the event.<\/p>\n<p>Representing North Carolina Aquatic Club, the 27-year-old Twichell finished in 2:04:17.848.<\/p>\n<p>A tight battle emerged for second-place honors, with Anderson,\u00a0<strong>Rachele Bruni<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Arianna Bridi\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Becca Mann<\/strong> all in the mix. Anderson took the silver medal in the event at the 2012 Olympics and was fifth in 2016 in Rio, a rare where Italy&#8217;s Bruni got the silver.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson ended up finishing second in 2:05:10.852, just ahead of the Italian duo of Bruno (2:05:11.256) and Bridi (2:05:12.416).\u00a0<strong>Becca Mann<\/strong>, Anderson&#8217;s teammate at Trojan Swim Club, took fifth in 2:05:13.427.<\/p>\n<p>The only other American to make the top ten was FAST&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cathryn Salladin<\/strong>, who was sixth in 2:06:47.575. Rounding out that top ten were Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kareena Lee\u00a0<\/strong>(2:06:47.751), Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Barbara Pozzobon\u00a0<\/strong>(2:07:07.058) and\u00a0<strong>Alice Franco<\/strong> (2:07:07.084) and Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Danielle Huskisson<\/strong>
