WUPPERTAL, Germany, November 14. THE last day of the German Short Course Championships featured a double from Steffen Deibler in Wuppertal.<\/p>\n
Steffen Deibler, who owns the top-ranked time in the world with a 50.43 from the Tokyo World Cup stop in October, won the men's 100 fly in 51.16. Ben Starke placed a close second in 51.49, while Jan Hesse took third in 52.41. Starke moved to 11th in the world rankings. <\/p>\n
Steffen Deibler returned in the men's 50 free to double up with a winning 21.32. He came up short of his third-ranked season best of 21.23 from the Rio World Cup stop in September. Brother Markus Deibler took second in the splash-and-dash tonight in 21.91, while Christoph Fildebrandt picked up third-place honors in 22.07.<\/p>\n
Markus Deibler vaulted to fifth in the world rankings in the men's 200 IM with a winning time of 1:55.33. Jan David Schepers (1:58.46) and Tim Wallburger (1:58.97) completed the podium behind him.<\/p>\n
Paul Biedermann won the men's 400 free in 3:42.91. That performance came up short of his top-ranked season best of 3:41.27 clocked in Stockholm as part of the World Cup circuit. Jan Wolfgarten took second in 3:45.38, while Yannick Lebherz placed third in 3:45.51. <\/p>\n
Britta Steffen took home the women's 50 free with a time of 24.38, just short of her sixth-ranked 24.30 from the Berlin stop of the World Cup. Daniela Schreiber placed second in 24.71 to move to 12th in the world rankings, while Lisa Vitting set a German junior record with a third-place 25.02 for 23rd in the rankings.<\/p>\n
Theresa Michalak lowered the German junior record in the women's 100 IM with a 10th-ranked time of 1:00.45. Katharina Schiller took second in 1:01.70, while Katharina Fischer placed just behind with a third-place 1:01.77.<\/p>\n
Marco Koch cruised in the men's 200 breast with a winning time of 2:06.78. That effort chopped more than a second from his 23rd-ranked season best of 2:08.15 to move him up to 14th in the rankings. Armin Breb touched a distant second in 2:11.69, while Paul Wiechhusen rounded out the top three in 2:12.37.<\/p>\n
Stefan Herbst moved to 18th in the world rankings with a winning time of 51.90 in the men's 100 back. Lucien Hasdenteufel finished second in 52.90, while Lebherz touched third in 53.56. Serghei Golban cleared the German junior record with a fourth-place 53.67.<\/p>\n
Caroline Ruhnau captured the women's 200 breast in 2:25.03, while Sarah Poewe took second in 2:26.17. Karoline Degenhardt finished third overall in 2:26.45, while Laura Simon finished fourth in 2:26.57 to set the German junior record.<\/p>\n
Franziska Jansen touched out Sarah Kohler, 4:08.15 to 4:08.25, in the women's 400 free. Nina Schiffer claimed third overall in 4:11.26. Lena Kalla won the women's 100 fly in 59.27. Schreiber took her second podium with a second-place 59.33, while Schiffer also podiumed for the second time this evening with a third-place 59.40.<\/p>\n
