DURHAM, New Hampshire, November 13. LED by a record-breaking performance by Amy Perrault (Kirkland Lake, Ontario), the University of New Hampshire women's swimming and diving team placed first in 14 of 16 events, taking down the University of Rhode Island Saturday afternoon at Swasey Pool to remain unbeaten on the season. <\/p>\n
Perrault broke a five-year pool record in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 56.32 seconds. New Hampshire earned the top three spots in the event, with Katie Keefer (Waynesboro, Pa.) and Anna Gryglewska (Norwalk, Conn.) claiming second (1:02.62) and third (1:03.36) place, respectively.<\/p>\n
Despite URI claiming first place in the 1000-yard freestyle, the 'Cats struck back earning the top two spots in the 200-yard butterfly, with Lauren McCandless (Macungie, Pa.) grabbing first and Kiersten Wollenzien (Holland Landing, Ontario) taking second place. McCandless touched down at 2:06.37, while Wollenzien finished in 2:11.88.<\/p>\n
Shelli Reed (Hartland, Wisc.) and Sydney Tribou (Belle Island, Fla.) would help turn up the heat on URI, claiming first and second in the 100-yard freestyle, respectively. Reed notched the top spot with a time of 52.33, while Tribou was close behind, finishing in 55.05.<\/p>\n
New Hampshire kept the pressure on as Jenna Bull (Woodstock, New Brunswick) and Wollenzien teamed up to grab first and second place in the 200-yard backstroke, respectively. Bull snagged first with a time of 2:08.46 and Wollenzien claimed second place touching down at 2:11.09.<\/p>\n
McCandless and Perrault were at it again late in the action, giving the home squad a late push, earning first and second in the 500-yard freestyle, respectively. McCandless earned first place with a time of 5:03.68 and Perrault touched down at 5:07.41.<\/p>\n
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Nov. 19 when they travel to Boston University for the Terrier Invitational at Faneuil Pool.<\/p>\n
