{"id":256761,"date":"2017-05-19T10:16:23","date_gmt":"2017-05-19T17:16:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=256761"},"modified":"2017-05-19T10:16:23","modified_gmt":"2017-05-19T17:16:23","slug":"ioc-meeting-in-june-to-discuss-awarding-both-2024-and-2028-olympics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ioc-meeting-in-june-to-discuss-awarding-both-2024-and-2028-olympics\/","title":{"rendered":"IOC Meeting in June to Discuss Awarding Both 2024 and 2028 Olympics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee will hold a meeting June meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, to discuss the possibility of awarding both the 2024 and 2028 Olympics at the same time, according to a report from\u00a0<em>InsideTheGames<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>IOC President <strong>Thomas Bach<\/strong> will chair the one-day meeting, and according to\u00a0<em>InsideTheGames<\/em>, &#8220;it seems virtually certain that (the IOC is) planning to press ahead with plans to award both the Los Angeles and Paris editions of the Games.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles and Paris are the only two candidate cities for 2024 as both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/budapest-drops-bid-to-host-2024-olympics-only-paris-and-los-angeles-remain-in-bidding\/\" target=\"_blank\">Budapest<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/italian-national-olympic-committee-president-confirms-end-of-rome-2024-bid\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rome<\/a> have ended their candidacy within the past year, citing high costs. The IOC Evaluation Commission visited both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/la-2024-olympics-bid-receives-praise-from-ioc-evaluation-commission\/\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ioc-evaluation-commission-praises-paris-2024-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\">Paris<\/a> in recent weeks and praised both cities plans to host the Games, but each city insists that it want only the 2024 Games, not 2028.<\/p>\n<p>A vote on the host site for 2024 is currently scheduled for Lima, Peru, on Sept. 13, and it&#8217;s still likely that some sort of vote will take place, but according to\u00a0<em>InsideTheGames<\/em>, Bach is expected to &#8220;exercise a tight grip on proceedings to ensure what he sees
