{"id":255831,"date":"2017-05-12T16:14:28","date_gmt":"2017-05-12T23:14:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=255831"},"modified":"2017-05-12T16:14:28","modified_gmt":"2017-05-12T23:14:28","slug":"south-carolina-man-fights-cancer-with-open-water-swim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/south-carolina-man-fights-cancer-with-open-water-swim\/","title":{"rendered":"South Carolina Man Fights Cancer With Open Water Swim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ernie Yarborough\u00a0<\/strong>is using an open water swim to help fight cancer down in South Carolina this Friday when he will attempt to swim the longest ever recorded swim across Lake Murray.<\/p>\n<p>Yarborough is a local insurance agent who\u00a0is completing the 10 mile swim on\u00a0Friday to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society\u00a0as\u00a0part of a fundraising effort ahead of\u00a0next week&#8217;s Man and Woman of the Year Awards for LLS.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is no if in these kids\u2026 only when,&#8221; said Yarborough when describing his motivation for the swim. &#8220;That is what inspires me and that&#8217;s why I keep going and that&#8217;s why I&#8217;m swimming across Lake Murray.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yarborough is a weekly volunteer at the children&#8217;s cancer floor\u00a0at the Palmetto Health Children&#8217;s Hospital. He has completed 4 Ironman Triatholons and is hoping to raise $10,000 for the organization.<\/p>\n<p>You can donate to Yarborough&#8217;s cause <a
