FORT WORTH, Texas, November 5. THE TCU women's swimming and diving team began its Mountain West Conference season Friday evening with a 148-129 over Air Force at the TCU University Recreation Center Natatorium.<\/p>\n
The Horned Frogs (1-0, 1-0 MWC) swept the 200-medley relay, 200-freestyle relay, 100-freestyle and 200-freestyle en route to claiming victories in 13 of the 16 events. The Falcons fell to 0-4 overall and 0-4 in conference action.<\/p>\n
"We are happy to get our first conference win," TCU coach Richard Sybesma said. "Air Force has some strong athletes, so we're happy to get started on the right foot."<\/p>\n
TCU grabbed 15 early points going 1-2 in the 200-medley relay, the meet's first event. The TCU team of Zrinka Korac, Michelle Fleming, Sabine Rasch and Parris Schoppa swam a 1:47.58 for first-place honors and 11 team points.<\/p>\n
Brittney Martinez, Nikki Pappas, Jenny Oster and Rachel Nash touched the wall behind them in 1:49.74 for second place and four team points.<\/p>\n
Freshman Amanda Vincent won both distance events for the Frogs, touching the wall in 5:16.06 in the 500-freestyle and in 10:42.61 in the 1000-freestyle.<\/p>\n
Another freshman, Christine Riddle, won both butterfly events for TCU. In the 100-butterfly, Riddle notched a time of 58.91 and a 2:06.84 in the 200-butterfly.<\/p>\n
Other TCU individual winners on the night included Maria Paula Alvarez in the 200-freestyle, Fleming in the 100-breaststroke, Schoppa in the 50-freestyle, Katie Scarsella in the 100-freestyle, Martinez in the 200-backstroke, Megan Higginbotham in the 200-breaststroke and Emily-Rose Creighton in the 400-individual medley.<\/p>\n
The Frog women return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. when MWC leader San Diego State visits the URC Natatorium.<\/p>\n
