THE second day of short course meter prelims action is complete at the World Cup stop in Berlin.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 free<\/b><br \/>\nDana Vollmer lowered another U.S. record, this time with a prelim-pacing time of 52.71.  She clipped the previous U.S. record of 52.79 set by Dara Torres back in 2007 in Berlin.  Vollmer, however, has been faster with an un-ratified time of 52.16 last December after USA Swimming had already put in place a domestic ban of the techsuits.  Vollmer cleared Jessica Hardy&#39;s previously top-ranked time of 53.06 from the Jose Finkel Trophy Meet.<\/p>\n<p>The Netherlands&#39; Femke Heemskerk qualified second in 53.33, while Germany&#39;s Daniela Schreiber placed third in 53.56. Australia&#39;s Angie Bainbridge (53.59), Sweden&#39;s Sarah Sjostrom (53.69), Germany&#39;s Britta Steffen (54.22), Australia&#39;s Sally Foster (54.48) and Canada&#39;s Chantal Vanlandeghem (54.54) also made the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 free<\/b><br \/>\nGermany&#39;s Ben Starke led the way with a time of 1:44.74, while Russia&#39;s Mikhail Polishchuk took second in 1:44.97. Germany&#39;s Paul Biedermann (1:45.10) and Russia&#39;s Artem Lobuzov (1:45.21) placed third and fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Germany&#39;s Markus Deibler (1:45.41), Poland&#39;s Pawel Korzeniowski (1:46.03), Germany&#39;s Stefan Herbst (1:46.33) and The Netherlands&#39; Stefan De Die (1:47.00) made up the rest of the top eight.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 50 breast<\/b><br \/>\nRussia&#39;s Yuliya Efimova raced to a 30.32 for the top prelim time in the sprint breast, moving to third in the world rankings. Germany&#39;s Dorothea Brandt touched second in 30.85, while Sweden&#39;s Jennie Johansson placed third in 30.99 to make up the sub-31 times.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#39;s Sally Foster (31.00), Sweden&#39;s Joline Hostmann (31.03), Germany&#39;s Caroline Ruhnau (31.42), Switzerland&#39;s Stephanie Spahn (31.45) and Norway&#39;s Katharina Stiberg (31.80) rounded out the championship field.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 breast<\/b><br \/>\nFour swimmers cleared 1:00 in qualifying: Russia&#39;s Aleksander Triznov (59.14), Brazil&#39;s Felipe Lima (59.36), Russia&#39;s Stanislav Lakhtyukhov (59.40) and Norway&#39;s Alexander Dale Oen (59.66).<\/p>\n<p>Germany&#39;s Erik Steinhagen (1:00.21), Czech&#39;s Petr Bartunek (1:00.67), Germany&#39;s Johannes Neumann (1:00.74) and Germany&#39;s Hendrik Feldwehr (1:01.08) also checked in with championship spots.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 fly<\/b><br \/>\nSouth Africa&#39;s Lyndon Ferns edged Russia&#39;s Vladislav Seryy, 51.94 to 51.98, for the top seed. Russia&#39;s Evgeny Korotyshkin (52.30) and Poland&#39;s Konrad Czerniak (52.41) placed third and fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Germany&#39;s Steffen Deibler (52.53), Russia&#39;s Nikolay Skvortsov (52.60), The Netherlands&#39; Joeri Verlinden (52.75) and Brazil&#39;s Frederico Castro (53.19) earned the rest of the transfer spots into the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 back<\/b><br \/>\nThe Netherlands&#39; Femke Heemskerk continued her strong meet with a top-seeded 58.05. Australia&#39;s Belinda Hocking touched second in 58.29, while Ukraine&#39;s Daryna Zevina took third in 58.86.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#39;s Chantal Vanlandeghem (59.50), Japan&#39;s Maria Kamimura (59.64), Russia&#39;s Mariya Gromova (59.65), Zimbabwe&#39;s Kirsty Coventry (59.66) and Norway&#39;s Ingvild Snildal (59.76) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 50 back<\/b><br \/>\nRussia&#39;s Arkady Vyatchanin picked up the top seed in 23.86, while USA&#39;s Randall Bal (24.42) and Peter Marshall (24.56) finished second and third.  <\/p>\n<p>France&#39;s Camille Lacourt (24.58), Russia&#39;s Artem Dubovskoy (24.60), Norway&#39;s Lavrans Solli (24.67), Germany&#39;s Christian Diener (24.68) and Colombia&#39;s Omar Pinzon (24.69) comprised the rest of the championship finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 fly<\/b><br \/>\nSweden&#39;s Martina Granstrom (2:08.65) paced prelims with the top time. USA&#39;s Jasmine Tosky (2:09.28) and Elaine Breeden (2:09.81) will bracket her during finals.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden&#39;s Sarah Sjostrom (2:10.33), South Africa&#39;s Mandy Loots (2:10.59), Germany&#39;s Zita Grunzke (2:11.38), Germany&#39;s Lena Kalla (2:11.91) and Germany&#39;s Jasmin Rosenberger (2:12.60) also earned their way to the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 IM<\/b><br \/>\nJapan&#39;s Daiya Seto led the way with a 1:57.22, while South Africa&#39;s Darian Townsend placed just behind in 1:57.83. Japan&#39;s Kosuke Hagino (1:58.40) and Sweden&#39;s Simon Sjodin (1:58.44) took third and fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#39;s Thiago Pereira (1:58.48), Germany&#39;s Markus Deibler (1:58.77), Poland&#39;s Lukasz Wojt (1:59.01) and Barbados&#39; Bradley Ally (1:59.21) finished fifth through eighth.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 400 free<\/b><br \/>\nHungary&#39;s Agnes Mutina posted a top time of 4:08.25, while The Netherlands&#39; Rieneke Terink finished second in 4:08.38. Chile&#39;s Kristel Kobrich placed third in 4:08.86.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#39;s Catherine Breed (4:09.04), Australia&#39;s Angie Bainbridge (4:09.35), Germany&#39;s Sarah Kohler (4:10.42), Australia&#39;s Merindah Dingjan (4:10.52) and Norway&#39;s Cecilie Johannessen (4:11.49) also made the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 50 free<\/b><br \/>\nRussia&#39;s Sergey Fesikov (21.53) and Sweden&#39;s Stefan Nystrand (21.63) clocked the top two times of the splash-and-dash qualifying. South Africa&#39;s Roland Schoeman (21.74), Germany&#39;s Steffen Deibler (21.82) and France&#39;s Fabien Gilot (21.83) took third through fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#39;s Matthew Abood (21.84), Russia&#39;s Vitaly Syrnikov (22.04) and USA&#39;s William Copeland (22.06) earned the last three spots in finals.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 breast<\/b><br \/>\nAustralia&#39;s Sally Foster cruised to the top seed in 2:22.35, while Sweden&#39;s Joline Hostmann earned second on 2:24.51. Russia&#39;s Anastasia Chaun (2:24.77) and Japan&#39;s Kanako Watanabe (2:26.13) touched third and fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#39;s Mio Motegi (2:26.34), Russia&#39;s Yuliya Efimova (2:26.35), Japan&#39;s Keiko Fukudome (2:26.53) and Germany&#39;s Caroline Ruhnau (2:27.66) made up the rest of finals.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 IM<\/b><br \/>\nSweden&#39;s Sarah Sjostrom topped prelims in 1:00.50 with USA&#39;s Julia Smit taking second in 1:00.99. The Netherlands&#39; Hinkelien Schreuder (1:01.23) and Germany&#39;s Theresa Michalak (1:01.42) will bracket those two in the finale.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#39;s Evelyn Verraszto (1:01.72), Norway&#39;s Ingvild Snildal (1:02.21), Hungary&#39;s Zsuzsanna Jakabos (1:02.29) and Germany&#39;s Silke Lippok (1:02.37) also picked up spots in the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 back<\/b><br \/>\nRussia&#39;s Arkady Vyatchanin led the way with a 1:53.86, while Poland&#39;s Radoslaw Kawecki (1:54.27) and Colombia&#39;s Omar Pinzon (1:54.50) finished second and third.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa&#39;s George Du Rand (1:55.10), Russia&#39;s Artem Dubovskoy (1:55.74), Japan&#39;s Kuninori Tada (1:56.09), USA&#39;s David Russell (1:56.35) and Germany&#39;s Jan-Philip Glania (1:56.42) grabbed the other lanes in the championship heat.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 50 fly<\/b><br \/>\nDana Vollmer nearly capped prelims with another U.S. mark.  This time, she clocked a 25.76, just short of Rachel Komisarz&#39;s record of 25.70 from 2008.
