MANSFIELD, Texas, October 30. TEXAS claimed seven of eight events to seal a victory in the two-day, five-team Southwest Collegiate Plunge Saturday afternoon at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium.<\/p>\n
The defending NCAA champion Longhorns claimed the second annual event with 996.5 points. Texas A&M took second with 925 points, and Missouri placed third with 825.5 points. TCU placed fourth with 820 points, and SMU took fifth with 739 points. <\/p>\n
UT opened the afternoon with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, where sophomore Cole Cragin and juniors Eric Friedland, Neil Caskey and Jimmy Feigen finished in 1 minute, 30.83 seconds. Texas followed with a win in the 200 freestyle, where sophomore Dax Hill posted a winning time of 1:39.91. Senior Scott Jostes took second in 1:40.37. <\/p>\n
Sophomore Nick D’Innocenzo scored his third win of the meet in the 200 breaststroke, as he led a one-two Texas finish in 2:01.17. Friedland took second in 2:02.50. Junior Drew Livingston led the Texas diving contingent in the three-meter event with a second-place total of 417.65 points. Freshman Will McCraney took seventh with 236.70 points. Feigen notched a NCAA “B” cut of 20.22 for a victory in the 50 freestyle. Junior Donald Sutton placed fifth at 21.33. <\/p>\n
Cragin led the Horns in the 100 backstroke with a winning mark of 48.97. Sophomore Austin Surhoff took third in 50.59. Freshman Patrick Murphy won the “B” final in 50.59. Caskey tallied a win in the 200 butterfly with a mark of 1:50.34. Sophomore Andrew Tran took fifth place at 1:54.30. Senior Jim Robertson claimed the “B” final at 1:54.03. <\/p>\n
Texas capped the afternoon with a NCAA “B” cut in the 400 freestyle relay, where Feigen, Jostes, Hill and Caskey finished in 3:00.14, nearly three seconds ahead of their nearest competitors. The Longhorns resume competition on Friday, Nov. 5 when they meet Indiana and Michigan in a two-day, double-dual meet in Bloomington, Ind. <\/p>\n
