STATEN ISLAND, New York, October 30. THE Wagner swim team sailed past conference opponents St. Francis (NY) and Sacred Heart, beating both teams by a combined 126 points, today at the Spiro Sports Center Pool.<\/p>\n
The Seahawks began the day finishing first in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Breanne Sweeney (Staten Island, NY), Kelsey Thomas (Hammonton, NJ), Alanna Gibbons (Staten Island, NY), and Amber Weech (Nassau, Bahamas) bested the second place group from Sacred Heart with a time of 1:53.46.<\/p>\n
The freshman class carried their teams momentum in the next three events with Meredith Ketchmark (Plainsboro, NJ), Alexandra Cooney (Port Jervis, NY), and Sarah Menendez (Land O'Lakes, FL) earning first place points in their individual events. Ketchmark completed the 1000 freestyle in 10:41.85, beating her second place opponent by 38 seconds. Cooney took first in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.80, while Menendez edged out fellow Seahawk, Thomas, in the 50 free with a time of 25.57.<\/p>\n
Junior Jakki Guenther (South Hadley, MA) got her first event win of the day in the 200 individual medley, sneaking past Sacred Heart's Nicole Del Nero by less than a second. Guenther would also take first in the 100 yard backstroke three events later.<\/p>\n
The 400 freestyle relay team of Menendez, Ketchmark, Sarah Plucinsky (Allentown, PA) and Weech closed out the day earning the meets final first place points in a time of 3:43.51.<\/p>\n
Wagner ended the event coming in first place in 10 of the days 11 events, capping of a dominating performance on swimming's alumni weekend. The Seahawks finished the day beating Sacred Heart 69-26, and beating St. Francis 83-10. <\/p>\n
The Seahawks will have a couple weeks off before making the short trip over to New Brunswick, New Jersey, where they will compete in the annual Rutgers Invitational beginning on November 19.<\/p>\n
