THE Wingate University women&#39;s swimming and diving team picked up two victories Friday night at the Pfeiffer University Athletic Complex. The Bulldogs defeated the host PU Falcons 78-17 and Brenau (Ga.) College 80-13. Wingate won 10 of the 11 events.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Elly Speer (Sydney, Australia) won two events: the 200 Freestyle (2:01.97) and the 200 Butterfly (2:13.82). Freshman Amanda Gilbert (Metairie, La.) won the 50 Freestyle (25.89) and earned victories in the two relay races. Gilbert was a member of Wingate&#39;s victorious 200 Medley Relay (1:53.57) and 200 Freestyle Relay (1:43.22) events.<\/p>\n<p>Bulldog freshman Valerie Dembny (Bremen, Germany) joined Gilbert on the two relay teams. Individually, Dembny won the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:15.04. Wingate will host Catawba College, Queens University of Charlotte and SCAD at the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5-6.<\/p>\n<p><b>The above article is a press release submitted to Swimming World Magazine.
