DAVIE, Florida, October 29. A balanced team performances fueled the Florida Atlantic University women's swimming and diving team to its first dual meet victory of the 2010-11 season on Friday in Davie, Fla. The Owls dominated Nova Southeastern University by a 130-66 score.<\/p>\n
FAU won seven events with five different members tallying first-place honors.<\/p>\n
The Owls were once again led by sophomore Eszter Bucz, who posted the fastest time in her two events — the 200-yard breaststroke race (in 1:46.75) and 200-yard individual medley (2:10.57). The Budapest, Hungary native also helped the 400-yard medley relay team to a victory.<\/p>\n
Junior Jonna Nyback contributed three victories on the afternoon, dominating the 100-yard freestyle by over two seconds (53.31) and 200-yard freestyle by three seconds. He also swam the anchor leg of the victorious 400-yard relay team.<\/p>\n
Junior Melissa Miller posted her first two victories of the season by winning the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:54.88) and 500-yard freestyle (5:20.12) distance events. Senior Alicia Stevens took top honors in the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.16) and junior Erin Hersey edged teammate Liz Starke for first place in the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.55).<\/p>\n
The Owls also posted the fastest time in the 400-yard freestyle relay event.<\/p>\n
FAU will conduct an alumni meet as part of homecoming festivities on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. Then, the team will host an exhibition match against Princeton University on Friday, November 5 at the FAU Aquatic Center. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Florida Atlantic University men's swimming and diving team picked up its first victory of the season, 132.50-67.50, over Nova Southeastern University on Friday in Davie, Fla.<\/p>\n
The Owls captured eight event victories in the meet – by seven different team members. Junior Csaba Pek edged senior David Rudolf for top honors in the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.78) to gain nine team points. Fellow junior Mikolaj Czarnecki won the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.03), while senior Michael Shimansky picked up a six-second victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle race (9:41.48). Shimansky later finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle.<\/p>\n
Other event wins included freshman John Walsh in the 100-yard freestyle (47.32), sophomore Steven Carroll in the 500-yard freestyle (4:41.49), senior Adam Corbin in the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.00) and sophomore Eric Williams in the 50-yard freestyle (21.49).<\/p>\n
FAU also took first-place honors in the 400-yard medley relay with team members featuring senior Tyler Griffith, Corbin, Rudolf and Williams. The team of junior Anthony Fermin, Corbin, Walsh and Williams had the fastest time in the 400-yard freestyle relay. <\/p>\n
The Owls will host an alumni meet as part of Saturday's homecoming festivities, starting at 11 a.m. The team will then host Princeton University in an exhibition dual meet on Friday, November 5 at the FAU Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n
