The first day of the Bergen Swim Festival in Bergen, Norway, featured several fast swims, particularly in the women’s competition, but no single effort was more impressive than\u00a0Sarah Sjostrom’s\u00a0<\/strong>dominant win in the women’s 100 free over some quality competition.<\/p>\n

Sjostrom posted a 52.86 to win that event, just a little off her 52.54 from the Stockholm Cup that ranks first in the world by far. But the Swede’s time was plenty good enough to beat out the 2012 Olympic gold medalist in the event, the Netherlands’\u00a0Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Kromowidjojo finished second in 53.72, moving her up to ninth in the world, and fellow Dutchwoman\u00a0Femke Heemskerk\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 54.00, good for 14th in the world.<\/p>\n

Hungary’s\u00a0Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> won three events on the first day in Bergen. First, she won the 400 IM in 4:36.24, just off her own fourth-ranked time of 4:35.46. The Netherlands’\u00a0Marjolein Delno<\/strong> took second in 4:56.99, and\u00a0Astrid Julie Halvorsen<\/strong> had the third-best time overall, winning the junior division in 5:04.35.<\/p>\n

Hosszu then won the 50 back in 28.37, taking down Denmark’s\u00a0Mie Nielsen\u00a0<\/strong>(28.57).\u00a0Lisa Graf\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 29.82. Hosszu also won the 200 fly in 2:15.98, beating out\u00a0Emily Nyenget Lovberg\u00a0<\/strong>(2:19.62), but the top time of the day came from\u00a0Katrine Bukh Villesen\u00a0<\/strong>in the junior ranks. She clocked 2:13.11.<\/p>\n

Iceland’s\u00a0Hrafnhildur L\u00fathersd\u00f3ttir\u00a0<\/strong>won the women’s 100 breast in 1:07.44, just missing the world top-20, but she was well ahead of Hosszu (1:10.29) and\u00a0Ingalill Urrang Naustvik\u00a0<\/strong>(1:10.73).\u00a0Hannah Brunzell\u00a0<\/strong>won the junior division in 1:10.37.<\/p>\n

On the men’s side, the top swim of the day came from Denmark’s\u00a0Viktor Bromer<\/strong>, who won the 200 fly in 1:57.16.\u00a0Alexander Kunert\u00a0<\/strong>took second in 2:00.06, and\u00a0Tomas Havranek\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 2:01.89.<\/p>\n

Arno Kamminga\u00a0<\/strong>took down\u00a0Erik Persson<\/strong> to win the men’s 100 breast, 1:00.78 to 1:01.16.\u00a0Johannes Skagius\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 1:02.56. Dutch swimmers swept the top three spots in the men’s 100 free, with\u00a0Ben Schwietert\u00a0<\/strong>winning in 49.55 ahead of\u00a0Jesse Puts\u00a0<\/strong>(49.70) and\u00a0Kyle Stolk<\/strong> (50.30).<\/p>\n

Sweden’s\u00a0Simon Sjodin\u00a0<\/strong>easily won the 50 back in 25.94. The Netherlands ‘Mathys Goosen\u00a0<\/strong>took second in 27.20, and third went to\u00a0Timo Zwiesigk\u00a0<\/strong>(28.10). The men’s 400 IM win went to\u00a0Daniel Dudas\u00a0<\/strong>in 4:31.36, with\u00a0Maarten Brzoskowski<\/strong> (4:32.12) and\u00a0Filip Bjorkholm<\/strong> (4:35.95) rounding out the top three.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
