DURHAM, North Carolina, October 29. TRAILING Duke by 10 points headed into the final event of the evening, NC State women's swimming and diving switched up its top relay squads to grab first and second place in the 400-freestyle relay and collect a come-from-behind ACC win.<\/p>\n
The men's swimming and diving team dominated the Blue Devils, 181-119, taking first place in every single swimming event. The women's team topped Duke, 150-147, and also downed Campbell, 243-44. The decision moves the Wolfpack men to 4-0 (2-0 ACC), while the women climb to 4-1 (1-1 ACC).<\/p>\n
The Blue Devil men fall to 2-1 (1-1 ACC), with the women sliding to 0-3 (0-2 ACC). The Camels drop to 2-4, having also lost to Duke.<\/p>\n
Two all-time top-10 swims were recorded on the night, both coming on the women's side. Kelsey Liu's 2:18.61 in the 200 breaststroke is fifth all-time, while Zina Grogg's 56.41 in the 100 butterfly stands ninth.<\/p>\n
Morgan Robertson, Meg Thompson, Grogg and Julianna Prim took second in the 200-medley relay with a 1:46.79 to get started, and Maggie McEnerney placed third in the 1000 freestyle on a 10:32.65. Marifrances Henley (1:51.24) and Prim (1:51.92) placed first and second in the 200 freestyle, and Kaitlin Mills used a 57.99 to win the 100 backstroke. Jessica Ward wound up third in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:06.48, and Liu (2:07.38), Jordan Paavola (2:07.48) and Jessica McBroom (2:08.13) grabbed the first three spots in the 200 butterfly. <\/p>\n
Henley won again with a 23.83 in the 50 freestyle, and Lauren Poore (52.50), Erica Waters (53.05) and Allison Hendren (53.29) took first, second and third in the 100 freestyle. Mills was third in the 200 backstroke with a 2:05.97, while Liu did the same in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:18.61. Henley finished second in the 500 freestyle on a 5:03.74, while Grogg (56.41) and Prim (56.74) placed one and two respectively in the 100 butterfly. Liu's 4:27.71 was second in the 400 individual medley, while Hannah Hopkins (243.60 – 1 meter, 270.38 – 3-meter) and Kirstyn Shepler (232.88 – 1-meter, 263.10 – 3-meter) finished third and fourth respectively in both dives.
\nThe women's comeback was completed in the 400-freestyle relay to close the night, with Henley, Bailey Woodling, Robertson and Poore taking first with a 3:30.59, while Hendren, Waters, Ashley Richter, and Prim used a 3:31.43 to grab second.<\/p>\n
Ivan Kopas swept the men's backstrokes yet again, winning the 100 backstroke with a 50.24, while using a 1:48.71 to take the 200 backstroke. His time in the 200 backstroke set a new pool record at Duke, breaking the old mark set by former Wolfpack swimmer and current graduate assistant Stephen Mellor.<\/p>\n
Brandon Kingston collected wins in both the 1000 freestyle (9:38.06) and 500 freestyle (4:40.38), and Barrett Miesfeld won both the 100 butterfly (49.78) and 200 butterfly (1:53.51). Conor Brennan placed first in the 50 freestyle (21.11) and 100 freestyle (46.11).<\/p>\n
Kopas, Dan Forsythe, Miesfeld and Brennan used a 1:33.19 to take the 200-medley relay, while Jonathan Boffa (1:42.20), Gaites Brown (1:42.93), Matt Thomas (1:43.13) and Ben Mechak (1:43.50) grabbed the top four spots in the 200 freestyle. Forsythe won the 100 breaststroke with a 57.84, and Ian Bishop took the 200 breaststroke on a 2:06.81. Kohl Hurdle's 4:06.12 time won the 400 individual medley, and Boffa, Brown, Joe Martin and Brennan won the 400-freestyle relay by combining to post a 3:03.13.<\/p>\n
Hudson Rains was second on the 1-meter dive with a 323.33.<\/p>\n
