WILLIAMSBURG, Kentucky, October 29. THE Tennessee Lady Vol swimming and diving team continued its early season success on Friday afternoon, as the Big Orange swept all eight swimming events to defeat the University of the Cumberlands by a score of 114-34 at the Dinah Taylor Aquatic Center. <\/p>\n
The meet was not run in typical dual style, but allowed UT to work on some speed events that it would not usually see in competition. With the win, the Orange and White improves to 3-0 overall (1-0 SEC).<\/p>\n
"We swam really well today and it was a good way to start our weekend," said Lady Vol head swimming coach Matt Kredich.<\/p>\n
To start the meet, juniors Jenny Connolly, Kirstyn Colonias and Atlantis Wilkins along with freshman Lauren Solernou won the 200y medley with a time of 1:47.42.<\/p>\n
Senior Morgan Farrell had a pair of first-place finishes, as the Pensacola, Fla., native won the 50y fly (26.99) and 50y back (27.99). <\/p>\n
Freshman Kennedy Higdon notched her first victory as a Lady Vol, winning the 200y free (1:55.41) and finishing runner-up in the 50y free, behind Wilkins, who won the event by touching in at 25.10.<\/p>\n
Also nabbing wins against UC were Connolly and sophomore Breanna Folk. Connolly nabbed first in the 100y IM (58.60), while Folk won the 50y breast in 30.34.<\/p>\n
The Orange and White quartet of Solernou, Colonias, Folk and freshman Grace Ann Sanderson closed out the meet by placing first in the 200y free relay (1:42.81).<\/p>\n
Tennessee will be on short rest, as the squad will travel north up I-75 to Lexington, to square off against SEC rival Kentucky tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. <\/p>\n
