{"id":254233,"date":"2017-05-04T12:03:42","date_gmt":"2017-05-04T19:03:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=254233"},"modified":"2017-05-04T12:03:42","modified_gmt":"2017-05-04T19:03:42","slug":"marist-swimming-diving-to-host-swimathon-for-alum-battling-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/marist-swimming-diving-to-host-swimathon-for-alum-battling-cancer\/","title":{"rendered":"Marist Swimming &#038; Diving to Host Swimathon for Alum Battling Cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Marist women&#8217;s and men&#8217;s swimming and diving teams will join with other alumni of the program to host the first ever Swimathon at <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_10579377\"><span class=\"aQJ\">2 p.m.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_10579378\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Friday, May 5<\/span><\/span>, in McCann Natatorium.<\/p>\n<p>The fundraiser will benefit former team member and Marist alumnus <strong>John-Takashi Suzuki<\/strong> &#8217;93, who was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. To celebrate Suzuki&#8217;s birthday, members of the program will swim laps in the pool and donate a certain amount of money per lap.<\/p>\n<p>All of the proceeds will go toward offsetting Suzuki&#8217;s medical costs and supporting his family.
