{"id":254046,"date":"2017-05-03T09:31:56","date_gmt":"2017-05-03T16:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=254046"},"modified":"2017-05-03T11:06:16","modified_gmt":"2017-05-03T18:06:16","slug":"costs-of-hosting-fina-world-championships-mounting-for-hungary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/costs-of-hosting-fina-world-championships-mounting-for-hungary\/","title":{"rendered":"Costs of Hosting FINA World Championships Mounting for Hungary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With all costs of this summer&#8217;s FINA World Championships starting to add up, Hungary will likely end up on the hook for some $454 million in U.S. dollars, or HUF 130 billion, when all is said and done.<\/p>\n<p>That number comes from adding up the costs of organizing the championships (HUF 32.9 billion), fees and licenses (38.6 bil) and infrastructure (92 bil).<\/p>\n<p>Hungarian\u00a0Minister of National Development <strong>Mikl\u00f3s Seszt\u00e1k<\/strong> insisted that most of the infrastructure work would have been done anyway, according to the\u00a0<em>Budapest Beacon<\/em>, but it&#8217;s the HUF 41.4 billion cost of the Danube Arena, host of the swimming and diving competition that has been the biggest financial burden for the country.<\/p>\n<p>The country expects to make up to HUF 10 billion back off direct revenues, plus whatever those involved with the World Championships spend while in Hungary.
