Stevens posted the fifth fastest time in the world this year in the 100 backstroke, touching in 59.40 at the UMiz Invite to win the event and make her the fastest American so far this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Performance of the Week -- May 2, 2017 -- Hannah Stevens\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zvaWPPaHqLI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rising senior split the race well, going out in 29.14 and coming back in 30.26. Her time was a personal best, knocking a few tenths off of her old best time of 59.67 from just under a year ago. While the time itself is impressive, what may be more remarkable is the fact that Stevens was likely unrested for her swim. That vaults her among the contenders\u00a0qualify for this summer\u2019s World Championship team in what is quickly becoming a loaded United States women\u2019s backstroke field. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Ali DeLoof <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is now the second-fastest American so far this year with her 59.43 from the Arena Pro Series in Mesa, also her best time, while Olympic medalist <\/span><b>Kathleen Baker <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and rising senior <\/span><b>Ally Howe <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are coming off of record breaking NCAA seasons.
