INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, October 21. BOTH the IUPUI men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished two spots behind Eastern Illinois in the final standings at last year's Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships, but the Jaguars put together strong performances in their first home meet of the season Friday evening resulting in a pair of convincing wins over the Panthers.<\/p>\n
The men's and women's teams combined to win 22 of the 26 events as the men downed Eastern Illinois 141-49 and the women defeated the Panthers 161-68.<\/p>\n
"That was an incredible meet for our teams," said head coach Matt Bos. "We came out with a lot of energy and built upon each good swim as the meet went on. Our teams are working so hard right now so to come out and perform like we did was amazing. We will go back to work tomorrow morning and hope the momentum we gained from the last two meets will continue."<\/p>\n
A week after setting the school record in the 500 freestyle, Margaret Barber continued to etch her name atop the IUPUI record books. The Bettendorf, Iowa-native won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:46.73 to rank second all-time on the IUPUI charts, 0.59 seconds shy of breaking the school record, in addition to winning the 500 freestyle.<\/p>\n
On the men's side, one of the top performances came from freshman Adam Ferguson in the 200 breaststroke. Ferguson touched the wall in 2:10.59 moving to the No. 2 spot in the school record books.<\/p>\n
In her first home meet, Jennifer Oleksiak captured a pair of wins in the 200 IM and the 200 breaststroke and broke onto the all-time Top 10 times in both events. Oleksiak's time of 2:12.77 in the 200 IM equaled the eighth-best mark in program history, while her 2:29.75 time in the 200 breast placed her sixth in the record books.<\/p>\n
Chen Ni was the last to set a new Top-10 mark doing so in the 1- and 3-meter dives with scores of 290.77 and 309.30, respectively, en route to winning both events.<\/p>\n
Peyton Zehner, Alexander Nunnelly, and Tony Carroll each were dual winners on Friday, while Lindsey Hurst, Lizzie Bourgeois, Lexi Laird, Matt LeMasters, Mason Hamilton, and Mitchell Gauger also captured top honors in an event.<\/p>\n
IUPUI continues its three-meet homestand on Friday, Oct. 28, when it hosts Butler and Centre College for a tri-meet beginning at 5 p.m. at the IUPUI Natatorium.<\/p>\n
