THE first day of short course meter preliminary racing is complete at the World Cup stop in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 free<\/b><br \/>\nAustralia&#39;s Kyle Richardson topped prelims in 47.99, while Sweden&#39;s Lars Frolander took second in 48.11. Russia&#39;s Sergey Fesikov (48.22), South Africa&#39;s Lyndon Ferns (48.37) and Japan&#39;s Yukihiro Okumura (48.51) placed third through fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#39;s Syunsuke Kuzuhara (48.57), South Africa&#39;s Graeme Moore (48.58) and Austria&#39;s Markus Rogan (48.60) snared the final three transfer spots into the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 free<\/b><br \/>\nJapan&#39;s Haruka Ueda (1:55.51) and Hanae Itou (1:56.47) led the way in prelims. Ueda moved to fifth in the world rankings, while Itou took 10th. <\/p>\n<p>Sweden&#39;s Sarah Sjostrom (1:58.51), Japan&#39;s Risa Sekine (1:58.85) and Japan&#39;s Misato Yamazaki (1:59.63) finished third through fifth. Japan&#39;s Yayoi Matsumoto (1:59.67), Japan&#39;s Ayano Koguchi (1:59.73) and China&#39;s Zhang Jiaqi (1:59.97) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 50 breast<\/b><br \/>\nJapan&#39;s Kouichirou Okazaki raced into the top 10 in the world rankings with a 27.03. South Africa&#39;s Roland Schoeman finished second in 27.14, while Japan&#39;s Yuuki Okajima took third in 27.18. Japan&#39;s Kosuke Kitajima cruised into the finale with a fourth-place 27.23.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#39;s Naoya Tomita (27.31), Japan&#39;s Ryo Tateishi (27.38), Brazil&#39;s Tales Cerdeira (27.65) and Japan&#39;s Ryo Kobayashi (27.65) picked up the rest of the finale spots.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 breast<\/b><br \/>\nJapan&#39;s Asami Kitagawa (1:06.53) and USA&#39;s Jessica Hardy (1:06.62) both cleared 1:07 for the top two seeds. Japan&#39;s Satomi Suzuki (1:07.13), Ayumi Koshiyama (1:07.22) and Rie Kanetou (1:07.29) claimed the third through fifth seeds.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#39;s Sayuna Sugiyama (1:07.35), Japan&#39;s Nanaka Tamura (1:08.17) and Japan&#39;s Hitomi Nose (1:08.19) completed the championship field.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 fly<\/b><br \/>\nSweden&#39;s Therese Alshammar (57.36) and Japan&#39;s Yuka Katou (57.85) finished first and second in prelims.  USA&#39;s Natalie Coughlin (58.06), Sweden&#39;s Sarah Sjostrom (58.59) and Japan&#39;s Tomoyo Fukuda (58.64) finished third through fifth.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#39;s Elaine Breeden (58.89), Japan&#39;s Nao Kobayashi (58.95) and Japan&#39;s Yurie Yano (59.48) made up the rest of the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 back<\/b><br \/>\nSouth Africa&#39;s George Du Rand paced prelims with a 52.18, while USA&#39;s Peter Marshall (52.27), Australia&#39;s Hayden Stoeckel (52.37), Japan&#39;s Junya Koga (52.44) and Japan&#39;s Kazuki Watanabe (52.45) finished in the top five.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#39;s Ryosuke Irie (52.63), Syohei Uchida (52.64) and Masafumi Yamaguchi (52.71) also took home championship spots.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 50 back<\/b><br \/>\nJapan&#39;s Aya Terakawa raced to the top spot with a 27.06, while Australia&#39;s Rachel Goh took second in 27.08. Yerakawa moved to fifth in the world rankings, while Goh already stands second with a season-best 26.64 from Singapore.  <\/p>\n<p>Australia&#39;s Marieke Guehrer (27.11), Japan&#39;s Noriko Inada (27.34) and The Netherlands&#39; Hinkelien Schreuder (27.48) placed third through fifth.  Japan&#39;s Shiho Sakai (27.90), Marie Kamimura (27.95) and Emi Moronuki (28.21) touched sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 fly<\/b><br \/>\nJapan&#39;s Takeshi Matsuda posted the top seed with a time of 1:53.13 to move to fourth in the world rankings. Japan&#39;s Hidemasa Sano (1:54.86), Ryosuke Sakata (1:55.35) and Hayato Odagiri (1:57.14) turned in second through fourth-place finishes.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#39;s Leonardo De Deus (1:57.26), Japan&#39;s Kiyotaka Ido (1:57.58), Hirotaka Satou (1:57.95) and Japan&#39;s Jun Isaji (1:58.33) also made the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 IM<\/b><br \/>\nJapan&#39;s Izumi Katou (2:11.07), USA&#39;s Julia Smit (2:11.36) and Japan&#39;s Emi Takabatake (2:11.81) posted 2:11s for the top three seeds. <\/p>\n<p>Japan&#39;s Tomoyo Fukuda (2:12.66), Chihiro Igarashi (2:13.11), Miho Teramura (2:13.30), Masako Kuroki (2:13.32) and Haruna Shinohara (2:13.44) provided the hometown crowd even more local swimmers to root for in the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 400 free<\/b><br \/>\nJapan&#39;s Syou Uchida held off Switzerland&#39;s Dominik Meichtry, 3:46.13 to 3:46.25, for the top seed. Japan&#39;s Junpei Higashi (3:47.98), Russia&#39;s Mikhail Polishchuk (3:48.00) and Japan&#39;s Hirotada (Noritake (3:49.67) placed third through fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#39;s Kai Kohata (3:49.70), Takashi Koike (3:49.88) and Yuuki Kobori (3:49.98) grabbed the final three transfer spots.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 50 free<\/b><br \/>\nThe Netherlands&#39; Hinkelien Schreuder (24.39), Sweden&#39;s Therese Alshammar (24.69), Australia&#39;s Marieke Guehrer (24.73), USA&#39;s Jessica Hardy (24.80) and Germany&#39;s Dorothea Brandt (24.99) all cleared 25 seconds to lead the way in the sprint free.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#39;s Madison Kennedy (25.12), Japan&#39;s Tomoko Hagiwara (25.24) and Sweden&#39;s Sarah Sjostrom (25.32) snared the rest of the top spots.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 breast<\/b><br \/>\nJapan&#39;s Kosuka Kitajima raced to the top seed with a time of 2:08.20. Austria&#39;s Markus Rogan (2:08.72), Brazil&#39;s Tales Cerdeira (2:08.75), Japan&#39;s Ryo Tateishi (2:08.79), Japan&#39;s Naoya Tomita (2:08.84) and Japan&#39;s Kazuki Otsuka (2:08.97) joined him in the 2:08s. <\/p>\n<p>Japan&#39;s Masaya Kanou (2:09.19) and Japan&#39;s Yukihiro Takahashi (2:09.73) also earned spots in the championship field.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 IM<\/b><br \/>\nBrazil&#39;s Thiago Pereira will look to continue on his World Cup-leading roll, and his top-seeded time in the sprint medley of 53.38 gave him a good start. Japan&#39;s Takuro Fujii (53.52), Brazil&#39;s Henrique Barbosa (53.59) and Russia&#39;s Sergey Fesikov (53.79) also posted 53s.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#39;s Yuma Kosaka (54.44), Canada&#39;s Brian Johns (54.46) and Japan&#39;s Kosuke Kitajima (54.71) picked up the other three lanes in the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 back<\/b><br \/>\nJapan&#39;s Shiho Sakai posted a top time of 2:06.11 to move into sixth in the world rankings. Teammate Aya Terakawa finished second in 2:06.17 to grab seventh in the rankings. Japan&#39;s Marie Kamimura (2:06.20) picked up third to move to eighth in the rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#39;s Sayaka Akase (2:07.25), Japan&#39;s Eriko Tanaka (2:08.27), Japan&#39;s Mai Harada (2:08.46), USA&#39;s Julia Smit (2:08.49) and Germany&#39;s Jenny Mensing (2:09.61) placed fourth through eighth.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 50 fly<\/b><br \/>\nGermany&#39;s Steffen Deibler, who has the top ranking in the world with a 22.49 from the Rio stop, took the top seed in 22.72.
