FREDERICKSBURG, Virginia, October 16. THE William and Mary Tribe women's swimming and diving team swept a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon, beating Mary Washington, 182-78, and Howard, 201-55. With the two wins, the Tribe moves its record to 2-1 on the season. <\/p>\n
Leading the way for the Tribe on Saturday afternoon was sophomore Gabrielle Mizerak and freshman Jen Bentley. Mizerak won both the 100 back and the 100 fly, displaying her versatility. Mizerak touched the wall on the 100 back in a time of 1:00.47 and the 100 fly in a time of 59.39. <\/p>\n
Bentley had great success in the mid-distance freestyle events, winning both the 200 and the 500 free. Bentley touched the wall in the 200 in a time of 1:54.60 and the 500 in a time of 5:07.33. <\/p>\n
Scoring three wins on the afternoon for the Green and Gold was junior Liza McDevitt. McDevitt scored a pair of wins in the 100 breast, beating both Mary Washington and Howard with her time of 1:09.71, while in the 100 free, McDevitt beat Mary Washington with her time of 54.04. <\/p>\n
Four more swimmer for the Tribe earned two individual wins on the afternoon, including senior Emily Burns, who touched the wall first in the 50 free with a time of 24.49. <\/p>\n
Junior Molly Emery beat both Mary Washington and Howard in the 1,000 free, coming in with a winning time of 10:37.91. Sophomore Kayla O'Malley earned two victories with her first-place time of 2:07.53 in the 200 fly, while freshman Jennifer Rothemich touched first in the 200 back with a time of 2:10.30 to claim two wins. <\/p>\n
Rounding out the College's effort on the day was junior Laura Matthews, who defeated Howard in the 200 breast with her time of 2:29.91. <\/p>\n
The William and Mary Tribe women's swimming and diving team will next be in action on Friday, October 29 when the College will host the University of Richmond. The meet is scheduled to get underway at the Rec Center Pool in Williamsburg at 5 p.m. <\/p>\n
