That time also broke Proud\u2019s old British record of 21.54 from the semi-finals of the 2016 Rio Olympics by more than two-tenths to establish a new national record in the event. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What makes Proud\u2019s performance even more notable is the fact that it came after a disappointing performance in the men\u2019s 100 free. Proud was only 50.50 in the heats of that event and missed the championship final despite coming into the meet as the third seed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But Proud more than made up for that swim with his 50 free, bouncing back to win in a time that would have won gold in Rio (where Proud finished just outside of the medals in fourth) by .08. <\/span><b>Anthony Ervin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the 2016 gold medalist with a 21.40. Proud finished off his meet with another No. 1 ranking and new British record, this time in the 50 fly when he won in 22.80. That will give the 22 year-old the chance to pull off double sprint gold in Budapest this summer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Congratulations Ben Proud on earning Swimming
