THE first day of short course meter finals racing is complete at the World Cup stop in Singapore.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 800 free<\/b><br \/>\nSouth Africa&#39;s Jessica Pengelly cruised to victory in the distance free with an 8:30.22. That swim came up a bit short of her ninth-ranked season best of 8:28.66. Japan&#39;s Yumi Kida finished second in 8:32.34, shy of her 12th-ranked season best of 8:31.08. South Africa&#39;s Kathryn Meaklim completed the podium with an 8:36.32.<\/p>\n<p>Liechtenstein&#39;s Julia Hassler (8:40.91), New Zealand&#39;s Charlotte Webby (8:43.44), Japan&#39;s Ayano Koguchi (8:46.32), Indonesia&#39;s Raina Grahana (9:14.19) and Singapore&#39;s Ting Ting Koh (9:17.76) made up the rest of the top eight.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 free<\/b><br \/>\nAustralia&#39;s Kyle Richardson touched out South Africa&#39;s Graeme Moore, 47.40 to 47.47, for the win. Richardson moved to sixth in the world rankings, while Moore pushed to ninth.  South Africa&#39;s Lyndon Ferns claimed third overall tonight in 47.68.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden&#39;s Lars Frolander (47.88), South Africa&#39;s Darian Townsend (47.90), Russia&#39;s Sergey Fesikov (48.16), Sweden&#39;s Stefan Nystrand (48.23) and Switzerland&#39;s Erik Van Dooren (49.66) rounded out the championship field.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 free<\/b><br \/>\nChina&#39;s Zhang Jiaqi captured the title in 1:56.95 to move to 10th in the world rankings. New Zealand&#39;s Melissa Ingram took second in 1:57.14 to take 11th in the rankings, while Brazil&#39;s Tatiana Lemos-Barbosa finished third in 1:57.99.<\/p>\n<p>Finland&#39;s Hanna-Maria Seppala (1:58.61), Singapore&#39;s Amanda Lim (2:01.14), China&#39;s Zheng Yifei (2:01.98), Japan&#39;s Ayano Koguchi (2:02.42) and Japan&#39;s Yumi Kida (2:02.61) finished fourth through eighth.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 50 breast<\/b><br \/>\nSouth Africa&#39;s Cameron van der Burgh jumped to the top of the world this year with a 26.21. That swim clipped Felipe Silva&#39;s previously top-ranked effort of 26.27 set at the Jose Finkel Trophy Meet. Teammate Roland Schoeman placed second in 26.69, while Brazil&#39;s Joao Gomes Jr. finished third in 26.74. <\/p>\n<p>Japan&#39;s Naoya Tomita (27.22), Singapore&#39;s Lionel Khoo (28.41), Indonesia&#39;s Nicko Biondi (28.56), Indonesia&#39;s Omar Suryaatmadja (28.80) and Singapore&#39;s Kenneth Lim (28.80) also competed in the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 breast<\/b><br \/>\nUSA&#39;s Jessica Hardy edged Japan&#39;s Nanaka Tamura, 1:06.49 to 1:06.80, in the event. Hardy has been faster this year with a second-ranked season best of 1:05.69 from September.  Tamura, meanwhile, moved to eighth in the rankings. Sweden&#39;s Jennie Johansson capped the podium with a third-place 1:07.01. <\/p>\n<p>Germany&#39;s Dorothea Brandt (1:08.52), Germany&#39;s Kerstin Vogel (1:09.19), South Africa&#39;s Ronwyn Roper (1:10.36), Singapore&#39;s Samantha Yeo (1:11.66) and Singapore&#39;s Cheryl Lim (1:12.10) swam in the finale as well.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 400 IM<\/b><br \/>\nBrazil&#39;s Thiago Pereira crushed his top-ranking in the distance medley with a strong 4:02.82.  That time far surpassed his previously top-ranked season best of 4:06.47 from the Rio stop of the World Cup. Canada&#39;s Brian Johns (4:03.05) also cleared Pereira&#39;s previous best to move into second in the world. Canada&#39;s Tobias Oriwol placed third in 4:08.96 to move to seventh in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#39;s Andrew Ford (4:17.98), China&#39;s Jiang Tiansheng (4:19.61), China&#39;s Ni Zhanpeng (4:25.10), Indonesia&#39;s Muhammad Nasution (4:28.07) and Indonesia&#39;s Muhammad Dasuki (4:34.78) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 fly<\/b><br \/>\nAnother top-ranked time went up on the scoreboard, this time with Sweden&#39;s Therese Alshammar clocking a 56.32. That performance nipped Felicity Galvez&#39;s time of 56.34 set in July. Singapore&#39;s Li Tao took second in 56.78, while USA&#39;s Natalie Coughlin placed third in 58.09. Tao moved to third in the world rankings with her effort, while Coughlin claimed sixth in the world.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#39;s Elaine Breeden (58.33), China&#39;s Gong Jie (59.79), New Zealand&#39;s Charlotte Webby (1:01.66), Finland&#39;s Heidi Karjalainen (1:01.69) and Singapore&#39;s Meagan Lim (1:02.41) also swam in the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 back<\/b><br \/>\nBrazil&#39;s Guilherme Guido touched out USA&#39;s Peter Marshall, 51.16 to 51.19, in the 100 back. Both men have been faster this year with the top two ranked times of the year, 50.46 and 50.97, respectively. Australia&#39;s Hayden Stoeckel took third overall in 51.40 to move into a tie for fourth in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#39;s Randall Bal (51.64), Russia&#39;s Arkady Vyatchanin (51.82), Japan&#39;s Kazuki Watanabe (52.47), China&#39;s Lin Tai Qi (55.47) and Singapore&#39;s Rainer Ng (56.22) turned in the rest of the finals swims.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 50 back<\/b><br \/>\nAustralia went 1-2 with Rachel Goh winning in 26.64 and Marieke Guehrer taking silver in 26.77. Goh moved to second in the world, behind only Gao Chang&#39;s sterling 26.00 from the Beijing stop. Guehrer, meanwhile, improved upon her now-third-ranked season best of 26.81. The Netherlands&#39; Hinkelien Schreuder earned third in 27.22. <\/p>\n<p>Japan&#39;s Wakana Hirai (27.92), Germany&#39;s Jenny Mensing (28.46), USA&#39;s Madison Kennedy (28.78), Finland&#39;s Anni Alitalo (29.12) and Singapore&#39;s Lynette Ng (29.34) comprised the rest of the championship heat.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 fly<\/b><br \/>\nBrazil&#39;s Thiago Pereira doubled up with a 1:53.90 for the win to move to fifth in the world rankings. Australia&#39;s Travis Nederpelt finished second in 1:55.00, while Canada&#39;s Brian Johns placed third in 1:55.04.<\/p>\n<p>Switzerland&#39;s Alexandre Liess (1:57.76), Australia&#39;s Shane Asbury (1:58.66), Switzerland&#39;s Nico Van Duijn (1:58.99), Indonesia&#39;s Donny Utomo (2:03.52) and Indonesia&#39;s Pratama Siahaan (2:06.99) finished fourth through eighth.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 IM<\/b><br \/>\nUSA&#39;s Julia Smit posted a commanding victory with a time of 2:08.14. She moved to third in the world in the event, behind Emily Seebohm&#39;s 2:07.64 and Kotuku Ngawati&#39;s 2:07.76. Ngawati placed second in 2:09.27 tonight, while China&#39;s Zhang Jiaqi rounded out the top three in 2:12.04.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa&#39;s Kathryn Meaklim (2:12.65), South Africa&#39;s Jessica Pengelly (2:14.69), South Africa&#39;s Bianca Meyer (2:18.13), Singapore&#39;s Meagan Lim (2:20.61) and Indonesia&#39;s Ressa Dewi (2:21.05) completed the championship heat.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 400 free<\/b><br \/>\nSwitzerland&#39;s Dominik Meichtry won the middle distance event in 3:44.32 to move to sixth in the world rankings. Russia&#39;s Mikhail Polishchuk touched second in 3:45.77, while Brazil&#39;s Lucas Kanieski finished third in 3:46.15.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore&#39;s Clement Lim (3:51.92), Jeremy Mathews (3:58.72), Mattias Ng (4:06.82), Brandon Boon (4:09.09) and Mar-Cus Ong (4:12.44) posted the rest of the finale times.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 50 free<\/b><br \/>\nThe Netherlands&#39; Hinkelien Schreuder moved to the top of the world rankings with a 23.98 \u2013 becoming the first person under 24 seconds. She cleared Sweden&#39;s Therese Alshammar previously top-ranked time of 24.04. Alshammar, meanwhile, placed second in 24.31, while Australia&#39;s Marieke Guehrer took third in 24.44 to take fifth in the world rankings. <\/p>\n<p>USA&#39;s Jessica Hardy (24.50), Germany&#39;s Dorothea Brandt (24.83), Brazil&#39;s Tatiana Lemos-Barbosa (25.12), USA&#39;s Madison Kennedy (25.21) and Finland&#39;s Hanna-Maria Seppala (25.57) also competed in the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 breast<\/b><br \/>\nJapan&#39;s Naoya Tomita just missed his top-ranked season-best time of 2:05.30 with a winning time of 2:05.43. Japan&#39;s Kazuki Otsuka (2:06.09) and Russia&#39;s Grigory Falko (2:11.52) placed second and third. <\/p>\n<p>Indonesia&#39;s Muhammad Dasuki (2:15.53), Singapore&#39;s Mark Tan (2:17.50), Singapore&#39;s Kenneth Lim (2:19.27), Indonesia&#39;s Billy Arfianto (2:19.42) and Indonesia&#39;s Muhammad Nasution (2:20.79) made up the rest of the championship finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 IM<\/b><br \/>\nBrazil&#39;s Thiago Pereira capped a tremendous day with a third victory, this time with a 52.73 in the sprint medley. He came up short of his top-ranked season best of 52.35 from the Rio stop. South Africa&#39;s Darian Townsend finished second in 53.07 to improve upon his fifth-ranked season best of 53.27. Russia&#39;s Sergey Fesikov completed the podium with a third-place 53.52.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#39;s Tobias Oriwol (55.42), Australia&#39;s Travis Nederpelt (55.45), China&#39;s Huang Zhenghan (56.57), Canada&#39;s Andrew Ford (56.82) and Indonesia&#39;s Gede Sudartawa (57.87) also swam in the finale.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 back<\/b><br \/>\nNew Zealand&#39;s Melissa Ingram won the event going away in 2:03.99. That performance improved upon her already second-ranked season best of 2:05.42, but came up short of Belinda Hocking&#39;s top-ranked swim of 2:03.47.  USA&#39;s Julia Smit finished second in 2:06.08, while Germany&#39;s Jenny Mensing placed third in 2:07.64.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#39;s Rachel Goh (2:11.46), Australia&#39;s Kotuku Ngawati (2:13.39), Indonesia&#39;s Yessy Yosaputra (2:17.52), Finland&#39;s Anni Alitalo (2:22.70) and Singapore&#39;s Eve Ng (2:28.98) finished fourth through eighth.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 50 fly<\/b><br \/>\nSouth Africa&#39;s Roland Schoeman touched out Germany&#39;s Steffen Deibler, 22.65 to 22.81, for the sprint fly win. Schoeman moved to second in the world rankings behind Deibler&#39;s top-ranked season best of 22.49.
