{"id":252362,"date":"2017-04-19T09:25:19","date_gmt":"2017-04-19T16:25:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=252362"},"modified":"2017-04-19T09:25:19","modified_gmt":"2017-04-19T16:25:19","slug":"volunteers-needed-for-jimi-flowers-classic-swim-meet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/volunteers-needed-for-jimi-flowers-classic-swim-meet\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteers Needed for Jimi Flowers Classic Swim Meet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Each summer the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) holds a swim meet to honor the legacy of the late\u00a0Coach\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/remembering-the-walking-exclamation-point-a-tribute-to-jimi-flowers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jimi Flowers<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Flowers, a U.S. Paralympic coach, died tragically in 2009 when he fell during a climbing accident on Capitol Peak in Colorado. In addition to his years as a U.S. Paralympic coach, Flowers also served as the U.S. National Team Director from 1989-93 and coached at Auburn University.<\/p>\n<p>Some of Flowers most notable swimmers include Paralympians\u00a0<strong>Tucker Dupree, Melissa Stockwell,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Dave Denniston<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>USOC Request For Volunteers:<\/h3>\n<blockquote><p>In memory of our friend and former colleague, Jimi Flowers, the USOC will be hosting <strong>The Jimi Flowers Classic Swim Meet on <span data-term=\"goog_1155064152\">June 3-4, 2017<\/span>.<\/strong> This meet will be an exciting world class competition held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs featuring several of the USA\u2019s top Paralympic swimmers.<\/p>\n<p>For those who never had a chance to meet Jimi, he was an extraordinary husband, father, USOC staff member and swim coach who died on July 10, 2009 following a climbing accident near Aspen.\u00a0\u00a0 I encourage you to take a moment and watch this video about Jimi. There are three swimming sessions and we will need <strong>22-24 volunteers<\/strong> for each one.
