Sjostrom threw down four world-leading times at the meet, including an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sarah-sjostrom-sparkles-in-stockholm-posts-no-2-time-ever-in-50-free\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">all-time textile best of 23.83<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the 50 freestyle.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Performance of the Week -- April 18, 2017 -- Sarah Sjostrom\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pXdUAziy6tk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Sjostrom is primarily known as a butterflier, she is also one of the best freestylers in the world right now. The Swede can swim all the way up to the 200 free (which she is no sleeper in &#8212; case in point her duel with <\/span><b>Katie Ledecky <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Rio where she finished just behind the American), and she was the Olympic\u00a0bronze medalist in the 100 free as well, finishing behind co-gold medalists\u00a0<\/span><b>Penny Oleksiak <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>Simone Manuel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And while her 50 fly is far and away the best in the world (her world record stands at 24.43, a competitive time for a 50 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">freestyle<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), her 50 free has not had the same level of success on the international stage. Even coming away with three medals at the Rio Olympics, Sjostrom failed to make the Championship final in the 50 free. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her swim was Sjostrom\u2019s first best time in the event in three years and also downed Swedish legend <\/span><b>Therese Alshammar\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">national record of 23.88 from 2009.
