NORFOLK, Virginia, October 9. UNCW swept both Old Dominion and Richmond in women's dual meets while the Seahawks men were topped by ODU in the swimming and diving opener for all three schools on Saturday at the J.C. Chandler Pool.<\/p>\n
The Seahawk women topped host ODU, 161-138, and dealt the Spiders a 180-117 setback. On the men's side, though, the Monarch swam past the Seahawks, 166-129. The loss for UNCW's men snapped a 10-meet winning streak against Colonial Athletic Association foes, dating back to a loss to Old Dominion during the 2007-08 season.<\/p>\n
Junior Mattie Riley led the Seahawks with a pair of wins, winning the women's 50 Freestyle (24:01) and later swimming the anchor leg of the winning 400 Free Relay (3:29.25) Joining Riley on that relay were juniors Anna Munger and Katie Godown and sophomore Carly Tanner.<\/p>\n
Also adding a win for UNCW was junior Libby Mayock in the 200 Free with a time of 1:53.86.<\/p>\n
UNCW captured four events in the men's meet including freshman Michael Baric's victory in the 200 IM when he clocked in at 1:59.11. Junior Brandon Hicks (1:54.23) and sophomore Stephen Conrad (50.92) won the 200 Butterfly and 100 Butterfly, respectively. UNCW also won the men's 400 Free Relay as junior Alex Aguilar, senior Bobby Guntoro, freshman Gabe Thran and sophomore Michael Williams posted a time of 3:07.39.<\/p>\n
In diving, senior Kobi Salinas won both 1 and 3-meter boards for the men. Junior Meg Gildea and sophomore Amanda MacCreery won the 1 and 3-meter dives, respectively.<\/p>\n
The Seahawks host Duke on Oct. 16, in their home opener. The meet is slated for a 2 p.m. start at the Seahawk Natatorium.<\/p>\n
