DENTON, Texas, October 9. THE Arkansas swimming and diving team opened dual competition with wins over Tulane and North Texas on Saturday morning in Denton, Texas. The Razorbacks topped Tulane 155-66 and earned 153 points over UNT's 68.<\/p>\n
The Razorbacks placed first in each of their events with freshman Kesha Naylor taking the top spot in both diving events in her first meet as a Razorback. Naylor posted 304.30 points in the three-meter dive and 296.80 in the one-meter. Arkansas divers took the first three spots on the one meter with junior Alex Roman in second and senior Kristen Keith in third.<\/p>\n
"Our divers did an excellent job," head coach Jeff Poppell said. "They demonstrated why we are so excited about the contributions they will bring to our program this year."<\/p>\n
Junior Lisa Lunkenheimer placed first in the 200-butterfly event with a time of 2:04.58. After helping the 1500 freestyle relay team to a first-place finish yesterday, junior Chelsea Franklin picked up the best time in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.91.<\/p>\n
"The girls swam very well this morning after a tough day yesterday," Poppell said. "We had more outstanding performances from Lisa Lunkenheimer, Chelsea Franklin, and Katie Whitbeck and we had four freshman win events which was fantastic to see."<\/p>\n
Whitbeck finished first in the 100 free and helped the 200-medley relay team to first in the opening race of the meet. The relay group, Whitbeck, Lunkenheimer, senior Erin Neumann and freshman Aubrey Hertzler clocked 1:49.00 overall.<\/p>\n
Freshman Nicole Menzel picked up her first individual win as a Razorback in the 1000 free in 10:13.59. Menzel also won the 500 free and three more Razorbacks followed by. Another freshman to pick up her first collegiate win was Carly Mercer in the 50 free.<\/p>\n
Next week, the Hogs open Southeastern Conference competition with Vanderbilt on Friday, Oct. 15, in Nashville, Tenn., and make the trip to Knoxville to take on the Lady Vols on Saturday, Oct. 16.<\/p>\n
