KAREN KOENIG, 33, a former East German swim star and European champion, is suing the German Olympic Committee (NOK) for damages, claiming that she was doped by team officials during the East German communist era, according to an article today in TAZ, a German daily newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>Koenig, who won the European title in the 200m backstroke, first admitted she had been doped in 1997, saying that steroids had been presented as vitamin tablets and that taking them had become a daily habit as normal as brushing her teeth. <\/p>\n<p>Her case is anchored to the fact that funds from the former East German (GDR) Olympic Committee, some $5 million, were passed on to NOK after unification in 1992.
