LYNCHBURG, Virginia, October 8. THE Liberty Lady Flames won nine out of the 11 events they entered to defeat two league opponents in a dual meet, Friday evening, in Radford, Va. The Lady Flames defeated the host Radford Highlanders (116.5-114.5) and N.C. A&T (167-35).<\/p>\n
Freshmen Sarah McCorkle and Melissa Watson picked up their first individual career wins, in the 50y freestyle (25.85) and the 100y breaststroke (1:09.40), respectively, while fellow freshmen Lindsay Romkes and Brye Ravettine picked up three wins apiece.<\/p>\n
Liberty, now 2-1 on the year, was victorious in seven individual events and two relays en route to picking up the two triumphs. The win over Radford is especially significant, since the Highlanders also field a diving squad, and were able to score 26 unanswered points in two diving events. Going head-to-head against the Aggies, Liberty won all 11 events.<\/p>\n
The only two events that Radford won, other than diving events, were the 200y individual medley and the 100y freestyle.<\/p>\n
It was a special night, as McCorkle, Watson, Amber Kerico, Rachel Walten, Emily Mudd, Dani Fletcher and Lindsay Romkes all recorded season-best times, while Watson, Romkes and Ravettine set new school records. Watson set new program marks in the 200y individual medley (2:17.99) and the 100y breaststroke (1:09.40), while Ravettine set new records in the 100y butterfly (59.49) and the 100y backstroke (1:01.57) and Romkes finished with a school-record time in the 500y freestyle (5:20.11).<\/p>\n
Ravettine showed her versatility tonight in the butterfly and the backstroke, since she picked up two individual wins last weekend against Campbell in the 50 and 100y freestyle events.<\/p>\n
Also picking up an individual win was Bethany Wakeley, who finished first in the 1000y Freestyle with a time of 11:07.43. <\/p>\n
The Lady Flames are back in action at home on Nov. 6, hosting Gardner-Webb and VMI in their second and final home meet of the season at the LaHaye Aquatics Center.<\/p>\n
