She touched in 2:11.81, six tenths ahead of Texas&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Lauren Case\u00a0<\/strong>(2:12.41). He was more than a second ahead of the rest of the field, as Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zach Harting\u00a0<\/strong>qualified second in 2:00.79, and SMU&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Gomez<\/strong> took third in 2:00.93.<\/p>\n<p>Cal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tom Shields<\/strong> looked strong for the first 175 meters, but he faded to fourth in 2:01.30. Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mie Nielsen\u00a0<\/strong>was a full second behind in 1:01.56, but the two should go head-to-head in an excellent race in the final. Nielsen currently ranks seventh in the world in 59.81, with DeLoof just behind at 59.82.<\/p>\n<p>Trojan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kendyl Stewart\u00a0<\/strong>qualified third in 1:02.14, while Stanford&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Simone Manuel<\/strong>, making a rare appearance in a backstroke race, was fourth in 1:02.16. The American record-holder in the short course yards version of the event was followed closely by Neptune Natation&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mary-Sophie Harvey\u00a0<\/strong>(2:14.38), Texas&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Madisyn Cox\u00a0<\/strong>(2:14.79) and St. Petersburg&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Melanie Margalis\u00a0<\/strong>(2:14.94).<\/p>\n<p>Scottsdale&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong> captured the fifth seed in 2:15.47. The race was Ruck&#8217;s first of the meet after competing at Canada&#8217;s National Championships last week in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katie Drabot\u00a0<\/strong>(2:16.03), USC&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Louise Hansson<\/strong> (2:16.18) and New Zealand&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Helena Gasson<\/strong> (2:17.25) also made the A-final.
