\nSouth Africa's Wendy Trott earned the top seed in the distance event with a time of 8:34.34, while England's Rebecca Adlington took second overall in 8:35.82. Canada's Alexandra Komarnycky placed third in 8:36.71, while Australia's Melissa Gorman finished fourth in 8:38.16.<\/p>\n
Australia's Katie Goldman snared fifth in 8:38.91, while Australia's Blair Evans qualified sixth in 8:39.49. England's Sasha Matthews (8:41.10) and Scotland's Megan Gilchrist (8:46.85) also made finals in the distance swim.<\/p>\n

\nWith Canada's Brent Hayden already putting up the time to beat this week with a Games-record 48.18 as his team's relay leadoff, South Africa's Gideon Louw qualified first in 49.24. \nFinals should be interesting as two of the top 200 breaststrokers in the world are set to go head-to-head. Canada's Annamay Pierse, the world record holder, paced prelims with a 2:27.74, while Games record holder Leisel Jones of Australia qualified third in 2:28.57. Australia's Sarah Katsoulis split the difference with a second-place 2:28.29. <\/p>\n
England's Stacey Tadd (2:28.75), Canada's Martha McCabe (2:28.85), Australia's Tessa Wallace (2:28.89), Scotland's Kerry Buchan (2:31.05) and Scotland's Hannah Miley (2:32.04) also made the championship field.<\/p>\n

\nAustralia's Matthew Cowdrey, the world record holder with a 25.34, cruised in prelims with a 25.66. England's Simon Miller (27.00), Australia's Benjamin Austin (27.68) and India's Prasanta Karmakar (27.69) qualified second through fourth. <\/p>\n

\nAustralia's Nicholas Ffrost, Ryan Napoleon, Leith Brodie and Kenrick Monk topped qualifying with a 7:22.47, while England's Robert Bale, Daniel Coombs, Steven Beckerleg and Richard Charlesworth finished second in 7:22.61. Scotland's Andrew Hunter, Lewis Smith, Cameron Brodie and Jak Scott placed third in 7:26.98.<\/p>\n
