Among those who made their returns were Olympic\u00a0gold medalists\u00a0<strong>Simone Manuel\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong>, both of whom posted impressive preliminary marks during day one.<\/p>\n<p>Read below for full coverage of each event.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Free<\/h3>\n<p>Olympic gold medalist\u00a0<strong>Simone Manuel\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to the top seed in the first event of the meet. Representing Stanford, Manuel recorded a time of 54.02 to move into the world top-15 in her first long course 100 free since winning Olympic gold in the 100 free in Rio.<\/p>\n<p>Louisville&#8217;s <strong>Mallory Comerford\u00a0<\/strong>edged out Stanford&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>for the top spot in their heat, 54.62 to 54.71, and just behind was Trojan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Louisa Hansson<\/strong> in 54.79. Representing North Baltimore, Kalisz touched in 2:11.98 to edge out\u00a0<strong>Kevin Cordes\u00a0<\/strong>in their heat. She came in at 4:01.96, well ahead of Virginia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Leah Smith<\/strong>. Smith qualified second in 4:07.31, improving to tenth in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Club Wolverine&#8217;s <strong>Sierra Schmidt\u00a0<\/strong>qualified fourth in 4:12.44, and\u00a0<strong>Taylor Ault\u00a0<\/strong>was fifth in 4:13.07.
