﻿{"id":251080,"date":"2017-04-12T07:08:58","date_gmt":"2017-04-12T14:08:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=251080"},"modified":"2017-04-12T07:08:58","modified_gmt":"2017-04-12T14:08:58","slug":"xu-jiayu-misses-100-back-world-record-by-0-01-in-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/xu-jiayu-misses-100-back-world-record-by-0-01-in-china\/","title":{"rendered":"Xu Jiayu Misses 100 Back World Record By 0.01 in China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Xu Jiayu\u00a0<\/strong>was the Olympic silver medalist in the men&#8217;s 100 back last summer in Rio, but he figures to pose a huge challenge to\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy\u00a0<\/strong>in the event at this summer&#8217;s World Championships after Xu swam the second-fastest time in history in the event on day three of China&#8217;s national swimming championships in Quindao.<\/p>\n<p>Xu blasted a 51.86, just one hundreth off Murphy&#8217;s world record of 51.85 set in Rio. It is the second-fastest performance in history, and Xu broke\u00a0<strong>Ryosuke Irie&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>Asian record of 52.24 from 2009 and surpassed names like\u00a0<strong>Aaron Peirsol<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Matt Grevers\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Camille Lacourt\u00a0<\/strong>on the all-time list in the event.<\/p>\n<p>The time obviously ranks as the top time in the world this year, well ahead of the 53.13 posted a day earlier by\u00a0<strong>Evgeny Rylov\u00a0<\/strong>at the Russian championships.<\/p>\n<p>Finishing second in that race was\u00a0<strong>Li Guangyang<\/strong> in 53.61, the sixth-best time in the world this year, and<strong> Hu Yixuan<\/strong> touched third in 54.51.<\/p>\n<p>Also posting the fastest time in the world was\u00a0<strong>Sun Yang<\/strong>, who won the 200 free in 1:44.91. He now ranks No. 1 in the world by far in both the 200 and 400-meter events.\u00a0<strong>Wang Shun\u00a0<\/strong>moved to third in the world by finishing second in 1:46.57, and\u00a0<strong>Ji Xinjie<\/strong> came in third at 1:47.98.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s 100 back,\u00a0<strong>Fu Yuanhui<\/strong> became the third woman this year to break 59 seconds, joining\u00a0<strong>Emily Seebohm<\/strong> and the woman with whom she shared Olympic bronze,<strong> Kylie Masse<\/strong>. Fu won that event in 58.72, the third-best time in the world, while\u00a0<strong>Chen Jie\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 59.43 to move to fourth in the world.\u00a0<strong>Wang Xueer\u00a0<\/strong>touched third in 1:00.13.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shi Jinglin\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the women&#8217;s 100 breast, touching in 1:06.94. That time ranks eighth in the world this year and was more than enough to beat out\u00a0<strong>Viann Zhang<\/strong>\u00a0(1:08.05) and\u00a0<strong>Liu\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Xiaoyu<\/strong> (1:08.49).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hou Yawen\u00a0<\/strong>won the women&#8217;s 1500 free in 16:13.37, and\u00a0<strong>Chen Yejie\u00a0<\/strong>took second in 16:19.80. Those times ranked fourth and eighth in the world, respectively.\u00a0<strong>Xin Xin\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 16:27.54.<\/p>\n<p>In semifinal action,\u00a0<strong>Yan Zibei\u00a0<\/strong>qualified first for the men&#8217;s 50 breast final in 27.38, ranked No. 6 in the world this year, and ahead of\u00a0<strong>Wang Lizhuo\u00a0<\/strong>(27.52) and\u00a0<strong>Li Xiang\u00a0<\/strong>(27.55).\u00a0<strong>Li Zhuhao<\/strong>, coming off a Chinese record in the men&#8217;s 50 fly, paced the 200 fly semis in 1:56.37, well ahead of\u00a0<strong>Yu Yingbiao\u00a0<\/strong>(1:58.14) and\u00a0<strong>Wang Zhao\u00a0<\/strong>(1:58.37).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ai Yanhan\u00a0<\/strong>edged out 15-year-old\u00a0<strong>Li Bingjie\u00a0<\/strong>for the top seed in the women&#8217;s 200 free final, 1:56.88 to 1:56.93. Those times rank seventh and eighth in the world this year, respectively.\u00a0<strong>Liu Zixuan\u00a0<\/strong>touched third in 1:57.30.<\/p>\n<p><a
