It was, however, Masse&#8217;s second Canadian record in the event on the day.<\/p>\n<p>Including Masse, nine swimmers booked their tickets to this summer&#8217;s FINA World Championships in Budapest. Read below for full coverage of each of the ten events contested.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 800 free<\/h3>\n<p>16-year-old<strong> Alexander Katelnikoff\u00a0<\/strong>captured the first national championship of the meet, holding off fellow teenager\u00a0<strong>Justin Konik<\/strong> for the win on the last 50. Katelnikoff finished in 8:16.65, while Konik came in second in 8:17.37. Finishing third was\u00a0<strong>Jong Hoon Lee\u00a0<\/strong>in 8:18.27.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rafael Davila\u00a0<\/strong>was actually the fastest performer on the day with his 7:58.90 from the early heats, but he represents Venezuela internationally and was not eligible to be one of the top finishers. Also competing in the A-final were\u00a0<strong>Kennady Kilger\u00a0<\/strong>(27.95) and\u00a0<strong>Paulina Bond\u00a0<\/strong>(28.12).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Penny Oleksiak<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Sandrine Mainville<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Michelle Toro\u00a0<\/strong>all scratched. Savard then pulled away to take the win in 1:57.13, good for the seventh-fastest time in the world for 2017 and a spot at the 2017 World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Joining Savard in the 200 free will be teenager\u00a0<strong>Mary-Sophie Harvey<\/strong>, who touched second in 1:57.81. That ranks eighth in the world and qualifies Harvey, as well, for Budapest in the 200 free.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kayla Sanchez<\/strong> finished third in 1:58.28, and Smith held on for fourth in 1:58.59. Those two will join Savard and Harvey on the 800 free relay in Budapest. The Canadians previously won a bronze in the 800 free relay in Rio, and\u00a0<strong>Penny Oleksiak<\/strong> will likely join the squad come Worlds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kennedy Goss\u00a0<\/strong>just missed the top four, finishing fifth in 1:58.65. Smith, who finished seventh in the 200 breast in Rio and second at the NCAA championships last month, finished in 2:24.36. The time ranks sixth in the world this year.<\/p>\n<p>McGregor touched in 2:25.32, tied for ninth in the world, but the second-place finish under the FINA &#8220;A&#8221; time booked McGregor a spot on the World Champs team.
