The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/junior-national-team-member-austin-katz-lends-verbal-to-texas\/\" target=\"_blank\">Texas bound senior<\/a> touched in 47.06, sliding just .02 under the YMCA National mark of 47.08 set by\u00a0<strong>Daniel Hein\u00a0<\/strong>last year. Fifteen year old\u00a0<strong>Brendan Burns\u00a0<\/strong>of Upper Main Line challenged Katz before falling to second in 47.59. Grand Island Nebraska&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matthew Novinski\u00a0<\/strong>finished third (48.26).<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/georgia-scores-verbal-commitment-from-courtney-harnish\/\" target=\"_blank\">Courtney Harnish<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>captured <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/courtney-harnish-ross-dant-top-distance-events-at-2017-ymca-sc-nationals\/\" target=\"_blank\">another YMCA National title<\/a>, this time in National record fashion. Harnish used a strong back half to stop the clock in 1:45.14 in the 200 freestyle. That time was just faster than former York teammate <strong>Megan Small<\/strong>&#8216;s 1:45.48 swum in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Westport\/Weston&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Grinalds\u00a0<\/strong>was out quickly. Harnish reeled the 16 year old back in and Grinalds finished second (1:45.51). Bradford&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Paige Hetrick\u00a0<\/strong>(1:47.35) took bronze.<\/p>\n<p>In the next event, another YMCA National mark came crashing down. As he did in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/grant-house-takes-down-1976-olympian-bruce-furniss-500-free-pool-record-at-ohio-d1-state-champs\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ohio high school season<\/a>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/grant-house-commits-to-bob-bowman-and-asu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Grant House<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the 200 freestyle. The Countryside swimmer posted a 1:34.52, over a second faster than the 1:35.66 Ocean County&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zachary Molloy\u00a0<\/strong>went in 2014.\u00a0<strong>Ryan Waters\u00a0<\/strong>of Somerset Valley stopped the clock in 1:36.29, just .01 ahead of\u00a0<strong>Hank Siefert\u00a0<\/strong>of Coffman Family YMCA in 1:36.30.<\/p>\n<p>Hometown swimmer\u00a0<strong>Heather Sigmon\u00a0<\/strong>of the Greensboro YMCA won the women&#8217;s 100 backstroke. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/virginia-tech-nabs-backstroker-heather-sigmon-for-2017-2018-season\/\" target=\"_blank\">soon to be Virginia Tech Hokie<\/a> stopped the clock in 52.82. Butler&#8217;s\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/camryn-forbes-gives-verbal-commitment-to-indiana\/\" target=\"_blank\">Camryn Forbes<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>was runner up in 53.94. Finishing third was\u00a0<strong>Emma Seiberlich\u00a0<\/strong>of Phoenixville.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mary O Soule\u00a0<\/strong>of Western North Carolina led start to finish in the women&#8217;s 400 IM. While the field came back on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/unc-gets-verbal-from-ashevilles-mary-soule\/\" target=\"_blank\">UNC commit<\/a> in the final 100 yards, she held on to win in 4:15.86. A pair of 15 year olds followed: Sunbury&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Abigail Doss\u00a0<\/strong>and Sarasota&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emma Weyant<\/strong>. Doss powered forward on the breaststroke leg and came home strong to out touch Weyant 4:17.24 to 4:17.34.<\/p>\n<p>Eau Claire Wisconsin&#8217;s\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/paul-delakis-breaks-18-year-record-200-im-wisconsin-division-1-boys-high-school-state-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\">Paul DeLakis<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>took a commanding early lead and held on throughout the race to win the men&#8217;s 400 IM in 3:49.02. That was his second consecutive year winning the event. Wilton&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robby Giller\u00a0<\/strong>finished second (3:50.50).\u00a0<strong>Jackson Cunningham\u00a0<\/strong>of Boise swam a 3:52.58 for third place.<\/p>\n<p>The women of Fanwood Scotch Plains were under National Record pace through the 150 of the 200 medley relay. The team of\u00a0<strong>Julia Stankiewicz<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Rachel Maizes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Monika Burzynski<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Darlene Fung\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 1:41.21 for first, a quarter second off the record.<\/p>\n<p>Triangle Area bounced back from a relay DQ last night to claim second.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/richmond-adds-yotas-jordan-kohut-to-2017-2018-roster\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Jordan Kohut<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<strong>Maria Baric<\/strong>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/yotas-sam-medlin-verbally-commits-to-university-of-houston\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Sam Medlin<\/strong><\/a>, and\u00a0<strong>Brooke Morgan\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 1:42.58. In third was Blue Ash&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emma Shuppert<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Lanna DeBow<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Megan Glass<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Emma Fortman\u00a0<\/strong>(1:42.61).<\/p>\n<p>The top heat of the men&#8217;s 200 medley relay was a tight one. Birmingham&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Oliver Cafferty<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Lucas Kokubo<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Alex Margherio<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Ryan Lawrence\u00a0<\/strong>got to the wall first in 1:31.33. Sarasota&#8217;s\u00a0Katz,\u00a0<strong>Brett Riley<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Keanan Dols<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Matt Nutter\u00a0<\/strong>were three tenths behind in 1:31.66.
