While only one YMCA National record fell on night two of the 2017 short course YMCA National Championships, there were several\u00a0close calls.<\/p>\n

Bath Area started the night with a national title in the 200 freestyle relay, holding onto their top seed swum in last night’s prelims.\u00a0Caitlin Tycz\u00a0<\/strong>surged forward at the end to touch in 1:32.85 behind teammates\u00a0Ann Tolan<\/strong>,\u00a0Ella Martin<\/strong>, and\u00a0Olivia Harper.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

After being under National Record pace through the halfway mark, Westport\/Weston’s\u00a0Sarah Grinalds<\/strong>,\u00a0Katie Thornton<\/strong>,\u00a0Willow Woods<\/strong>, and\u00a0Simon Visinski\u00a0<\/strong>settled for second in 1:33.22. Triangle Area’s\u00a0Maria Baric<\/strong>,\u00a0Sam Medlin<\/strong>,\u00a0Brooke Morgan<\/strong>, and\u00a0Jordan Kohut\u00a0<\/strong>took third with a 1:33.29.<\/p>\n

Tycz returned to defend her 100 butterfly National Title, touching first in 52.76. The USC commit<\/a> was just off her own National Record of 52.43. Blue Ash’s\u00a0Megan Glass\u00a0<\/strong>was second (53.51) and\u00a0Jessi Snover\u00a0<\/strong>of Spartanburg finished third (53.65).<\/p>\n

Sarasota’s\u00a0Kenan Dols<\/strong>,\u00a0Austin Katz<\/strong>,\u00a0Brendan Firlie<\/strong>, and\u00a0Matt Nutter\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 1:23.48 to win the men’s 200 freestyle relay.\u00a0Sean Foster<\/strong>,\u00a0Victor Vollbrechthausen<\/strong>,\u00a0Jack Alexy<\/strong>, and\u00a0Ryan Carkhuff\u00a0<\/strong>took second for Somerset Hills with a 1:23.79. Almost a second back was Red Bank’s\u00a0Max Walther<\/strong>,\u00a0Matthew Chang<\/strong>,\u00a0Joey Huber<\/strong>, and\u00a0Christopher Smith<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the next event\u00a0Sarasota’s Katz dominated the 200 backstroke. The soon to be Texas Longhorn<\/a>\u00a0touched in 1:41.74, just shy of his own National mark of 1:41.48. His teammate\u00a0Keanan Dols\u00a0<\/strong>edged Wilton’s\u00a0Jake Kealy<\/strong> 1:45.25 to 1:45.39 for runner up honors.<\/p>\n

York’s\u00a0Courtney Harnish\u00a0<\/strong>won two events in as many days as she hung on to claim the 200 backstroke. The Georgia commit<\/a> was out quick and ultimately touched\u00a0in 1:54.40. Long course champion and Indiana commit<\/a>\u00a0Camryn Forbes\u00a0<\/strong>was second for Butler (1:54.83). Just a tenth behind her was Phoenixville’s\u00a0Emma Seiberlich<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(1:54.96).<\/p>\n

In a session\u00a0with A finals dominated by high school seniors, fifteen year old\u00a0Brendan Burns\u00a0<\/strong>won the 100 butterfly. Burns, of Upper Main Line, went a 47.62. His teammate Brian McKenrick\u00a0<\/strong>finished third (48.65).\u00a0Three tenths behind Burns was Soundview’s\u00a0Corey Gambardella\u00a0<\/strong>(47.93) in second.<\/p>\n

Brooke Perrotta\u00a0<\/strong>of Cheshire powered home to win the 200 breaststroke in 2:12.50. Taking second was\u00a0Sammie Eyolfson\u00a0<\/strong>of Boise (2:13.35). Despite leading with only a 50 to go, Somerset Balley’s\u00a0Megan Bull\u00a0<\/strong>placed third (2:14.12).<\/p>\n

Maxwell McHugh\u00a0<\/strong>maintained his top seed, though fell short of his own National Record in the 200 breaststroke. The Door County swimmer stopped the clock in 1:56.51. Countryside’s\u00a0Grant House<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>was second in 1:58.24, just ahead of\u00a0Paul DeLakis<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>of Eau Claire in 1:58.56.<\/p>\n

The final of the women’s 400 medley relay saw two disqualifications.\u00a0Cheshire’s team of\u00a0Alexandra Tyler<\/strong>,\u00a0Perrotta,\u00a0Mia Leko<\/strong>, and\u00a0Elizabeth Boyer\u00a0<\/strong>touched first in 3:43.18, just .02 ahead of Spartanburg’s\u00a0Madeline Reilly<\/strong>,\u00a0Sydney Baker<\/strong>,\u00a0Maegan Rudolph<\/strong>, and\u00a0Jessi Snover<\/strong>. Fanwood Scotch Plains’\u00a0Darlene Fung<\/strong>,\u00a0Rachel Maizes<\/strong>,\u00a0Monika Burzynski<\/strong>, and\u00a0Marlise Moesch\u00a0<\/strong>finished third (3:45.16).<\/p>\n

Katz returned to the top of the podium again, this time swimming the lead off for Sarasota’s National Record setting relay. Katz,\u00a0Brett Riley<\/strong>, Dols, and Nutter combined for a 3:17.93, faster than the 3:18.14 set by Somerset Valley in 2013.<\/p>\n

Somerset Valley’s 2017 squad of\u00a0Michael Macchia<\/strong>,\u00a0Brandon Evers<\/strong>,\u00a0Riley Pestorius<\/strong>, and\u00a0Ryan Waters\u00a0<\/strong>were second in 3:19.87. Birmingham’s\u00a0Oliver Cafferty<\/strong>,\u00a0Luca Kokubo<\/strong>,\u00a0Alex Margherio<\/strong>, and\u00a0Ryan Lawrence\u00a0<\/strong>rounded out the top three in 3:21.64.<\/p>\n

At the end of night two York leads the women’s scores while Sarasota tops the men.<\/p>\n
