LAUSANNE, Switzerland, September 9. THE World Cup starts in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on September 10-12, at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre, with the confirmed presence of 194 swimmers from 13 countries to compete in the 34 individual events of the meet. <\/p>\n
Among the swimming greats expected to shine at the first leg are local hero Cesar Cielo, backstroke ace Randall Bal (USA), Swedish queen Therese Alshammar and Russia's star Arkady Vyatchanin (RUS). <\/p>\n
In a time-span of two months, participating swimmers will square-off in 25m pools for seven meets on three continents, beginning with the Americas, followed by Asia and then Europe. <\/p>\n
A total of US$360,000 will be distributed to the winners, while an additional maximum of US$50,000 is reserved for world record breakers. The overall men's and women's SWC winners receive US$100,000, while those placing second and third receive US$50,000 and US$30,000 respectively. Sums ranging from US$500 to US$1,500 are also distributed to the winners of each of the 34 races at all seven meets.<\/p>\n
