The 2017 Australian Swimming Championships run April 9-13 in Brisbane and will serve as the Aussies’ selection meet for the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest. Most of the usual suspects will be in action, even if plenty of notable Australians have announced they will skip the World Championships.<\/p>\n

Emily Seebohm<\/strong>\u00a0is entered in six individual events, and she is seeded first in both the 100 and 200 back, both events in which Seebohm is the defending World Champion. She’s also entered in the 100 free, 50 back, 50 fly and 200 IM.<\/p>\n

Cate Campbell<\/strong> tops qualifiers in the 50 and 100 free and also is fourth in the 200 free, but Campbell has announced that she will not compete at the World Championships this summer<\/a>. Campbell’s sister\u00a0Bronte<\/strong>, the reigning World Champion in both the 50 and 100 free, is seeded second in both events. Her plans for the World Championships are unknown.<\/p>\n

Along with Campbell, 200 fly Olympic silver medalist\u00a0Madeline Groves\u00a0<\/strong>and two-time 100 free World Champion\u00a0James Magnussen<\/strong> have also made plans to skip the year’s major championships, and those two will not even compete in Brisbane.<\/p>\n

Versatile freestyler\u00a0Cameron McEvoy<\/strong> is the top seed in the 50, 100 and 200 free, but he will have his hands full with 100 free Olympic gold medalist\u00a0Kyle Chalmers\u00a0<\/strong>in the 100 and 200 in Brisbane.<\/p>\n

Mack Horton<\/strong>, the Olympic gold medalist in the 400 free, is seeded first by large margins in the 400 and 1500 and is fifth in the 200 free.\u00a0Mitch Larkin<\/strong>, who won World titles in both the 100 and 200 back\u00a0in 2015, tops the field in both of those events.<\/p>\n
