MAUI, Hawaii, August 27. THE second evening of long course meter swimming at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships featured even more revisions to the meet record book.<\/p>\n
Australia's Mitch Larkin crushed the meet record in the men's 400 IM with a top time of 4:16.07. That time far surpassed the 4:17.86 set by Yuya Horihata last year, and pushed Larking up to 19th in the world rankings this year. Japan's Daiya Seto earned second in 4:19.07, while Australia's Daniel Tranter wound up third in 4:20.53. <\/p>\n
Australia's Yolane Kukla first tied Dagny Knutson's meet record of 55.37 during prelims of the women's 100 free before returning in finals with a close victory over USA's Lia Neal, 54.69 to 54.91, to finish the day with the meet mark. Kukla has been faster this year with an eighth-ranked 54.02 at the Pan Pacific Championships. USA's Jasmine Tosky earned her second podium of the meet with a third-place 55.25, also under Knutson's previous record. <\/p>\n
USA's Mary Olsen charted a 1:09.03 during prelims of the women's 100 breast to clip Samantha Marshall's 2009 meet record of 1:09.08. Australia's Tessa Wallace, however, crushed Olsen's short-lived mark with a sterling time of 1:07.99 in the finale. Wallace just missed her 20th-ranked season best of 1:07.92 set at Pan Pacs. Canada's Tera VanBeilin finished second in 1:08.32, while Australia's Rebecca Kemp placed third in 1:08.98. Olsen wound up fourth in the evening in 1:09.23. <\/p>\n
James Stacey's 2007 meet record in the men's 100 breast of 1:02.81 didn't stand a chance. Four swimmers cleared the mark in prelims with USA's Kevin Cordes leading qualifying with a 1:02.26. The competition got even faster at night with Australia's Nich Schafer touching out USA's Matt Elliott, 1:01.92 to 1:01.99, for the meet record and win. Japan's Masaya Kano placed third in 1:02.48, while Cordes faded to sixth in 1:03.10. <\/p>\n
Australia's Kenneth To touched out USA's Clay Youngquist, 50.16 to 50.22, in the men's 100 free. USA's Kip Darmody rounded out the top three in 50.46. <\/p>\n
USA's Nicole Vernon captured the women's 400 IM in 4:43.74, while Australia's Amy Levings took second in 4:44.93. Australia's Keryn McMaster placed third overall in 4:45.51. <\/p>\n
In relay action, USA's Chelsea Chenault, Lia Neal, Lauren Driscoll and Jasmine Tosky dominated the women's 800 free relay with a time of 8:00.89. Canada's Lindsay Delmar, Lauren Earp, Alyson Ackman and Brittany Maclean finished second in 8:06.00. For the men, Australia's Ned McKendry, Kenneth To, Jayden Hadler and Declan Potts beat out USA's Clay Youngquist, Kip Darmody, David Nolan and Nicholas Caldwell, 7:18.35 to 7:19.10, for the men's 800 free relay crown.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
