USA&#39;s Ryan Lochte continued to make his case that he is the Greatest Swimmer Right Now, while compatriot Michael Phelps has struggled this year likely due to a lack of motivation.  Lochte ran away with the 400 IM title tonight, while Phelps failed to make the A final due to the two-per-country rule.<\/p>\n<p>Under world-record pace at the 150-meter mark with a split of 1:26.15, Lochte powered through the rest of the distance medley event to capture the title in 4:07.59, lowering his prelim meet record of 4:08.77. The time just missed the top 10 in the world all time, and gave the U.S. its fifth win of the night.  The win gave the U.S. its third straight in the event at Pan Pacs as Phelps won in 2002 (4:12.48) and 2006 (4:10.47).<\/p>\n<p>USA&#39;s Tyler Clary earned second in 4:09.55, just off his second-ranked season best of 4:09.20 set during prelims. Brazil&#39;s Thiago Pereira completed the podium with a third-place 4:12.09 to move to fifth in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#39;s Yuya Horihata (4:15.93), Canada&#39;s Brian Johns (4:16.21), Japan&#39;s Ken Takakuwa (4:17.47), Canada&#39;s Andrew Ford (4:21.66) and Australia&#39;s Jayden Hadler (4:23.72) finished fourth through eighth in the A final.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#39;s Robert Margalis claimed the B final title in 4:17.28, partially due to Phelps electing to scratch the B final after he failed to qualify for the A final this morning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/65.110.72.225\/SPIPDF\/20100818panpacsd2f.pdf target=_blank>Day Two Finals Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p><font color=Red>Coverage Sponsored by TYR<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the most comprehensive coverage on the Internet provided by Swimming World, check out the Event Landing Page for recaps, results, photos and videos from Irvine!
