The Longhorns saw four victories on Saturday night and an NCAA record in every single one of them. <strong>Clark Smith<\/strong>, <strong>Will Licon<\/strong> and <strong>Jack Conger<\/strong> all won their respective events in an NCAA record time as seniors for the Longhorns. The 400 free relay also won and set an NCAA record. Smith held off a hard charging <strong>Felix Auboeck<\/strong> of Michigan, <strong>Akram Mahmoud<\/strong> of South Carolina and <strong>Jordan Wilimovsky<\/strong> of Northwestern to swim the fastest 1650 ever at 14:22.41. In fact, the top four were the fastest four swims in history. Auboeck (14:22.88), Mahmoud (14:22.99) and Wilimovsky (14:23.45) went back and forth throughout the back half to get the Saturday night session off to a fantastic start.<\/p>\n<p>Wisconsin&#8217;s <strong>Matthew Hutchins<\/strong>, Michigan&#8217;s <strong>PJ Ransford<\/strong>, NC State&#8217;s <strong>Anton Ipsen<\/strong> and Stanford&#8217;s <strong>Grant Shoults<\/strong> all finished in the top eight.<\/p>\n<p>Texas now has two NCAA titles in the 1650. at the NCAA Men&#8217;s Swimming and Diving Championships. Cal senior <strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong> won his fourth straight 200 back title Saturday night with a 1:36.75. Murphy got some serious pressure from Texas sophomore <strong>John Shebat<\/strong> who finished second at 1:37.24. Shebat is now the third fastest performer in history. Southern California&#8217;s <strong>Patrick Mulcare<\/strong> finished third at 1:37.80, now fifth all-time.<\/p>\n<p>Murphy joins the likes of USC&#8217;s <strong>John Naber<\/strong> (1974-1997) and Ohio State&#8217;s<strong> Yoshi Oyakawa<\/strong> (1952-1955) as fourpeat winners in the 200 back. Murphy also joins Naber as the only NCAA swimmers to go undefeated in backstroke races at the NCAA championships.<\/p>\n<p>Alabama&#8217;s <strong>Connor Oslin<\/strong>, Louisville&#8217;s <strong>Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong>, Missouri&#8217;s <strong>Carter Griffin<\/strong>, Denver&#8217;s <strong>Anton Loncar<\/strong> and Texas&#8217; <strong>Jonathan Roberts<\/strong> also swam in the A-final.<\/p>\n<p>Cal now has six NCAA titles in the 200 back. One of them was the unthinkable 40 second barrier in the 100 freestyle. Florida junior <strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> almost made that a reality on Saturday night with a 40.00 for his third win of the meet. Dressel was out in 19.01 to blitz the field and made the IU Natatorium collectively sigh when he touched the wall, getting oh so close to the 40 second barrier in the 100 free.<\/p>\n<p>Dressel got pressure from Missouri&#8217;s<strong> Michael Chadwick<\/strong> who placed second at 40.95. NC State&#8217;s <strong>Ryan Held<\/strong> finished third at 41.21. Now, it is just another swim. Texas senior smashed his American Record with a 1:47.91, breaking the record he set last year at 1:48.12. Licon won his third straight 200 breast NCAA title and was not touched in the race tonight. Alabama&#8217;s <strong>Anton McKee<\/strong> finished second at 1:51.22, good for eighth all-time. <strong>Mauro Castillo<\/strong> of Texas A&amp;M finished third at 1:52.09.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia Tech&#8217;s <strong>Brandon Fiala<\/strong>, Louisville&#8217;s <strong>Carlos Claverie<\/strong>, South Carolina&#8217;s <strong>Nils Wich-Glasen<\/strong>, Purdue&#8217;s <strong>Marat Amaltdinov<\/strong> and Notre Dame&#8217;s <strong>Trent Jackson<\/strong> also competed in the A-Final.<\/p>\n<p>Licon is the first to win three straight 200 breast titles since Texas&#8217; <strong>Brendan Hansen<\/strong> won four straight from 2001-2004. Texas now has nine 200 breast titles. Going into today, it was expected to be a match race between Conger and Texas junior and two-time defending champion <strong>Joseph Schooling<\/strong>. Schooling did not make the A-final after a poor performance this morning, so it was expected to be all Conger. The senior took the lead early with a 45.78 100 split and never looked back. Conger finished way ahead of the records and swam the fastest time in history at 1:37.35 for his first individual NCAA title.<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s <strong>Zheng Quah<\/strong> finished in second at 1:38.83. Quah is now third all-time in the event. Georgia&#8217;s Gunnar Bentz finished third at 1:40.07 for eighth all-time. Georgia&#8217;s <strong>Pace Clark<\/strong>, NC State&#8217;s <strong>Andreas Vazaios<\/strong>, California&#8217;s <strong>Andrew Seliskar<\/strong> and Arizona&#8217;s <strong>Justin Wright<\/strong> all swam in the A-final. That smashed Auburn&#8217;s 2:46.03 from the 2009 NCAA Championships with <strong>Jakub Andkjaer<\/strong>, <strong>Gideon Louw<\/strong>, <strong>Kohlton Norys<\/strong> and <strong>Matt Targett<\/strong> on that relay.<\/p>\n<p>Florida gave Texas all they could handle through three legs as <strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> (40.48), <strong>Jan Switkowski<\/strong> (41.50), <strong>Maxime Rooney<\/strong> (42.13) and <strong>Mark Szaranek<\/strong> (42.10) finished second at 2:46.21. Southern California was third at 2:47.33. California, Stanford, Arizona State, NC State and Indiana also swam in the A-final.<\/p>\n<p>Dressel (40.48), Haas (41.01), Schooling (41.02) and Southern Cal&#8217;s <strong>Dylan Carter<\/strong> (41.10) had the fastest splits across the board.<\/p>\n<p>Texas now has nine NCAA titles in the 400 free relay.
