Stott<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In this <em>Swimming World<\/em> exchange, University of Texas Men&#8217;s Swimming Coach &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Eddie Reese<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; explains why there will not be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sub-130-200-free-history-in-the-making\/\" target=\"_blank\">a sub 1:30 200 yard freestyle<\/a> at the 2017 NCAA Men&#8217;s DI Swimming Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong><em>Q &#8211; Swimming World (SW):<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0As you may know, S<em>wimming World<\/em> has written that the 1:30 barrier in the 200 free is going down this weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>A &#8211; Eddie Reese (ER):<\/strong> I don\u2019t know about that. They put in these big touch pads so it\u2019s a real rough. For the guys who are underwater more, the backstrokers even the IMers, it\u2019s not that bad. It\u2019s terrible for the 200 freestylers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>SW:<\/strong> You are not that optimistic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>ER:<\/strong> Not at all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>SW:<\/strong> Are these pads different?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>ER:<\/strong> They hide the gutter, but they are killing us with the waves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>SW:<\/strong> And they did at Georgia Tech too? (Site of the 2016 NCAA meet).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>ER:<\/strong> Yup. I couldn\u2019t believe that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>SW:<\/strong> So why?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>ER:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know. They\u00a0sold them the (high) pads. They want to use them. I don\u2019t know. I will personally buy pads that are lower, send them over and let them use them. I\u2019ll give them to them.
