COLLEGE STATION, Texas, August 15. 2008 Olympian David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.\/West Lafayette, Ind.) scored 605.40 points to break his own American record and win the men's 10-meter national title Saturday at the AT&T National Diving Championships.<\/p>\n
Boudia also paired with Nick McCrory (Chapel Hill, N.C.) for the men's synchronized 10-meter title, and Cassidy Krug (Coraopolis, Pa.\/Stanford, Calif.) won a pair of titles as well \u2013 individually on 3-meter and in synchronized 10-meter with Kassidy Cook (The Woodlands, Texas).<\/p>\n
Boudia became the first American diver to score more than 600 points in the six-dive format, breaking his own record of 551.20. He scored at least one 10 on each of his six dives, earning 19 perfect marks in all. He scored more than 100 points on three of his dives, with 106.20 points on his back 2 \u00bd with 2 \u00bd twists, 108 points on his back 3 \u00bd pike and 111 points on his final dive, a front 4 \u00bd tuck.<\/p>\n
"I hit all six dives. I couldn't be happier. This is the breaking moment in my career. This is even better than the 2008 Olympics," said Boudia, who is now a 12-time national champion. "I knew when I went up to the platform before my final dive that I was close to 600, but I had to shake it out of my head and stop thinking about it. After it was over, I knew it was a good dive. When I saw the scores, I was in shock."<\/p>\n
Harrison Jones (Spring, Texas) was second at 481.30, and Matthew Cooper (Bethesda, Md.\/Austin, Texas) scored 469.70 for bronze.<\/p>\n
Boudia and McCrory scored 450.00 points for the men's 10-meter synchro title, with Steele Johnson (Carmel, Ind.) and Toby Stanley (Conway, Ark.) placing second with 333.57 points.<\/p>\n
Krug, who stopped diving after the 2008 Olympic Trials but decided to come back at the end of 2009, won her second individual national title and fifth overall with her two wins. She scored 381.90 points for the individual 3-meter title \u2013 her first since 2007 \u2013 and then won her third synchro title (and first with Cook) with 321.60 points.<\/p>\n
"I didn't even compete in this meet last year. When I came back, I just wanted to have fun, but now I have my sights set on 2012," Krug said. "It's two years out, and this is a good measuring stick. London is my goal."<\/p>\n
Bianca Alvarez (Miami, Fla.\/Columbus, Ohio) won a pair of silver medals, finishing second individually with 358.05 points and pairing with Summer Allman (Lansing, Mich.) for 295.08 points and second in the synchro contest. Allison Brennan (Huntington Beach, Calif.\/Columbia, S.C.) scored 345.95 for the individual bronze, narrowly edging Allman, who took fourth.<\/p>\n
The AT&T National Diving Championships wrap up Sunday with finals in men's 3-meter, women's 10-meter, men's synchronized 3-meter and women's synchronized 10-meter.<\/p>\n
