THE fourth day of preliminary competition is complete at the 2010 U.S. Long Course Nationals.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 free<\/b><br \/>\nOlympic 400 free relay hero Jason Lezak of Rose Bowl cleared 49 seconds to top qualifying in the event. Lezak turned in a solid time of 48.92 to move to 12th in the world.  He&#39;ll be shooting for the top time in the world (Alain Bernard&#39;s 48.32) during the finale this evening.<\/p>\n<p>Longhorn&#39;s Dave Walters finished second overall in 49.01 to move into the top 20, while California&#39;s Nathan Adrian placed third in 49.07. <\/p>\n<p>Longhorn&#39;s Garrett Weber-Gale (49.14), Daytona Beach&#39;s Ryan Lochte (49.17), Tucson Ford&#39;s Matt Grevers (49.49), New South&#39;s Scot Robison (49.56) and SwimMAC&#39;s Nick Brunelli (49.56) earned the other championship final spots.<\/p>\n<p>SwimMAC&#39;s Josh Schneider, whose 50 free swims from yesterday are still under protest, eliminated the last easy way out of the adjudication process with a 14th-place 49.88.  If he would have made finals, then made the Pan Pacs team on the relay, his 50 free swim adjudication would have been moot.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 fly<\/b><br \/>\nGermantown&#39;s Teresa Crippen led five swimmers under 2:10 during qualifying with a top time of 2:09.15. That performance pushed her to 17th in the world. New York Aquatic&#39;s Kim Vandenberg, who trains and competes primarily in Europe but comes home for qualification meets, placed second in 2:09.36. She&#39;s already clocked a 10th-ranked 2:08.53 at the Paris Open.<\/p>\n<p>SwimAtlanta&#39;s Kathleen Hersey (2:09.45), NOVA of Virginia&#39;s Rachel Naurath (2:09.65) and FAST&#39;s Mary Mohler (2:09.87) also cleared 2:10 to take the third through fifth qualifying spots.<\/p>\n<p>Palo Alto Stanford&#39;s Jasmine Tosky (2:10.32), North Coast&#39;s Tanya Krisman (2:10.79) and KING&#39;s Andie Taylor (2:10.87) completed the rest of the championship field.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 IM<\/b><br \/>\nNBAC&#39;s Michael Phelps and FAST&#39;s Tyler Clary both eclipsed 2:00 during prelims with times of 1:59.13 and 1:59.52, respectively. Phelps owns the second-best time in the world this year with a 1:58.35 from Charlotte in May, just behind James Goddard&#39;s top-ranked 1:57.76.  Clary, meanwhile, had been ranked 23rd with a 2:00.92 from the Los Angeles Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>Daytona Beach&#39;s Ryan Lochte (2:00.69) and NBAC&#39;s Todd Patrick (2:00.91) claimed third and fourth in the prelim heats, while Hershey&#39;s David Nolan (2:01.15) placed fifth. Lake Forrest&#39;s Conor Dwyer (2:01.17), Longhorn&#39;s Austin Surhoff (2:01.29) and Longhorn&#39;s Eric Shanteau (2:01.43) comprised the rest of the finale field.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 back<\/b><br \/>\nBluefish&#39;s Elizabeth Beisel put up a 2:10.25 to pace prelims of the distance backstroke event.  That performance is just off her 14th-ranked season best of 2:10.05 set in July. Athens Bulldog Morgan Scroggy (2:11.07) and Colorado Stars&#39; Missy Franklin (2:11.17) earned second and third-place times to move into the top 25 in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Germantown&#39;s Teresa Crippen (2:11.27), Crow Canyon&#39;s Madison White (2:11.67), NBAC&#39;s Elizabeth Pelton (2:12.07), Penn State&#39;s Amy Modglin (2:12.59) and Indiana&#39;s Ashley Jones (2:13.12) earned the fourth through eighth-place spots.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 800 free<\/b><br \/>\nMission Viejo&#39;s Chloe Sutton cruised to the top time of an extended morning of qualifying with an 8:30.79.  Michigan&#39;s Emily Brunemann placed second in 8:31.55, while FAST&#39;s Kate Ziegler finished third in 8:33.47.<\/p>\n<p>Sierra Marlins&#39; Haley Anderson (8:37.53), Stanford&#39;s Kelsey Ditto (8:40.32), Terrapins&#39; Chelsea Chenault (8:40.34), Team Florida&#39;s Lauren Driscoll (8:40.87) and Cascade&#39;s Amber McDermott (8:41.56) will also vie for the distance national title tomorrow evening.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 1500 free<\/b><br \/>\nMission Viejo picked up the top seed in both of the distance events as Chad La Tourette threw down the gauntlet with a 15:03.75 during prelims. That effort vaulted him into fourth in the world behind Ryan Cochrane (14:56.83), Zhang Lin (15:00.39) and Robert Hurley (15:00.96). <\/p>\n<p>Delaware&#39;s Andrew Gemmell (15:12.85), Longhorn&#39;s Michael Klueh (15:14.34) and Club Wolverine&#39;s Peter Vanderkaay (15:14.89) clinched second through fourth-place seeds.
