We knew Indiana sophomore <strong>Lilly King<\/strong> would take it out fast at the 100, and we knew Minnesota senior <strong>Kierra Smith<\/strong> would come home strong on the back half. King took it out and held on the hard charging Smith for a new NCAA, American and US Open record in the 200 breast with a 2:03.18 to Smith&#8217;s 2:03.55. Those two are now the two fastest performers in history as the only swimmers to swim under 2:04.<\/p>\n<p>Watch the interview with Lilly King<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Lilly King, Indiana\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G9ENL-WVg0w?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Lost in the race was a strong performance from UMBC senior <strong>Emily Escobedo<\/strong> at 2:05.20. Escobedo is now eighth all time in the event. <strong>Sydney Pickrem<\/strong> of Texas A&amp;M finished in fourth and is now ninth all time in the event. NC State&#8217;s <strong>Kayla Brumbaum<\/strong>, Texas&#8217; <strong>Madisyn Cox<\/strong>, Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s <strong>Ashley McGregor<\/strong> and Louisville&#8217;s <strong>Andrea Cottrell<\/strong> also swam in the A-final.<\/p>\n<p>King defends her title from last year as she is still the first Indiana Hoosier to win the 200 breast NCAA title. King is now the first swimmer since USC&#8217;s <strong>Rebecca Soni<\/strong> to defend the NCAA title when Soni won four titles from 2006 to 2009.
