The first set of individual events of night three at the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships saw a new national record being set in the men’s 200 fly.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 Fly<\/h2>\n

NCAA Record:\u00a0<\/strong>1:44.93 – Alex Anderson, Mary Washington (2015)
\n2016\u00a0Champion<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/strong>1:47.28 – Douglas Kogut, MIT<\/p>\n

After\u00a0posting a personal best time by more than two seconds in prelims,\u00a0Brandon Lum<\/strong> of Wash. U in Missouri arrived in finals ready to race. The sophomore held strong throughout the race, pushing to a final time of 1:44.56 — a new Division III record. His time takes down Mary Washington’s\u00a0Alex Anderson’s\u00a0<\/strong>time of 1:44.93 from 2015.<\/p>\n

MIT freshman\u00a0Bouke Edskes<\/strong> held close to Lum, finishing second overall with a 1:45.69, improving by close to two seconds from his prelims time of 1:47.64.<\/p>\n

NYU’s\u00a0Carlos Colmenares<\/strong>, also a freshman, jumped up to third on the podium with a 1:47.13 finish, followed by Emory senior\u00a0Christian Baker<\/strong> and his time of 1:47.65.<\/p>\n

Jonathan Zimdars<\/strong> of Kenyon grabbed fifth overall with a 1:47.84, while NYU’s\u00a0Ian Rainey\u00a0<\/strong>was sixth with a 1:47.92.<\/p>\n

Carnegie Mellon’s\u00a0Mitchell Riek<\/strong> and Amherst’s\u00a0Samuel Spurrell\u00a0<\/strong>touched seventh and eighth respectively with 1:48.92 and 1:49.74 respectively.<\/p>\n

Megan Pierce<\/strong> of Williams uncorked a 1:59.76 to blast past the two-minute mark in the women’s 200 fly. Tonight’s win adds another gold to her collection after claiming victory in the 400 IM last night.<\/p>\n
RPI’s\u00a0Shanny Lin\u00a0<\/strong>posted a second place finish of 2:01.30, scraping .88 seconds off her prelims time of 2:02.18. She was followed closely by Ursinus’\u00a0Meggie Leitz<\/strong>, who moved up from her sixth place seed to claim the bronze medal with a 2:01.63.<\/p>\n
Veronica Wolff<\/strong>, also of Williams, picked up fourth with a final time of 2:01.77, while St. Thomas’\u00a0Katelyn Strauss\u00a0<\/strong>was fifth with a 2:01.83.<\/p>\n
Grove City’s\u00a0Anne Dassow<\/strong> (2:02.01), Johns Hopkins’\u00a0Abigail Brown\u00a0<\/strong>(2:02.09), and Emory’s\u00a0Megan Campbell<\/strong> (2:04.38) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n
