NCAA Record: <\/strong>1:31.42 – Muir, Sanchez-Aizcorbe, Taylor, Bergh\u00a0(Emory-2016) MIT’s Priscilla Wu<\/strong> anchored her team to victory in heat two in a 22.98. Her efforts allowed her to catch Denison’s Kt Kustritz<\/strong> who split a 23.55. Carolyn Kane split a 22.90 as the second leg, but it was just out of reach as MIT won the heat in 1:33.65 to Denison’s 1:33.74.<\/p>\n Heat three went to Saint Thomas in 1:33.90 including a 22.52 leg from Emma Paulson<\/strong>. Emory’s team of Caroline Olson<\/strong>, Megan Taylor<\/strong>, Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe<\/strong> and Marissa Bergh<\/strong> took the top seed by winning heat four in 1:32.44. Sanchez-Aizcorbe raced to a 22.48 which will be a big split if Bergh repeats her 22.5 from last night.<\/p>\n Williams holds the second seed at 1:33.44,\u00a0with some definite room to improve on a couple of splits. Leadoff Delaney Smith<\/strong> was 24.04 while 50-free Champion Emma Waddell<\/strong> was also three tenths slower than her relay split last night.<\/p>\n Johns Hopkins finished eighth in 1:34.32 while NYU took home sixteenth in 1:34.86.<\/p>\n NCAA Record: <\/strong>1:18.06 – Somers, Turk, Richardson, Ramsey (Kenyon – 2012) Williams’ Benjamin Lin<\/strong> put the Ephs back in the lead in heat two splitting 20.12. \u00a0Grant Johnson<\/strong> had the best split of the four in 20.07. Their time of 1:21.78 was good enough for the sixth seed. Close behind in the second heat was Washington University who also had a great anchor leg from Justin Morrell<\/strong> in 20.24.<\/p>\n Emory took control of heat three right from the start and gave Oliver Smith<\/strong> very clean water for the last leg which is always dangerous for everyone else. He anchored in 19.14 as the team swam a 1:19.78. Alexander Hardwick<\/strong> also swam a 20.04 which made a big impact for the eagles. MIT was a distant second in 1:21.18, which is respectable in its own right proving just how dominant Emory was this morning.<\/p>\n The final heat went to Wisconsin- Stevens Point in 1:21.44 for the overall third seed. All four men split under 21 but it was not enough to hit their seed time of 1:20.34. Do not count out this team tonight but it will be a challenge for anyone to beat Emory in this one.<\/p>\n Denison (1:21.99) and Kenyon (1:22.07)finished ninth and eleventh, respectively, which definitely shakes things up a bit in the team scoring. Emory has much less scoring opportunity in the individual races today compared to last night so this is important for the Eagles.<\/p>\n NCAA Record: <\/strong>4:13.14\u00a0– Caroline Wilson, Williams (2012) The first of the circle-seeded heats went to Bowdoin’s Sterling Dixon<\/strong>. With a dominant first half, Dixon went un-challenged through 350 yards. Kalamazoo’s Colleen Orwin<\/strong> and Kenyon’s Marysol Arce<\/strong> chased her down on last 50 but could not quite finish the job. Dixon won the heat in 4:23.79, Arce took second in 4:24.12 and Orwin was a close third in 4:24.58. Arce brought it home in a 57.78 while both Dixon and Orwin split 1:00.<\/p>\n Just a sophomore, Emory’s Julia Durmer<\/strong> completely took over heat four of this event. The next closest competitor finished eight seconds behind her as she dropped nearly four seconds from her best. A 1:13.25 breast split followed by a 59.57 surged her to victory and the top seed for tonight. Expect Durmer to be in the mix at the halfway point and then watch out for her to make this her race.<\/p>\n Williams’ Megan Pierce <\/strong>looked very smooth this morning racing to a 4:18.21. She knows how to handle this race at this level and had solid splits all around. You can expect her to be out and home faster tonight, so expect to see a great race between these two ladies. If Pierce can withstand a great Durmer breaststroke, she will be in contention to win this race once again.<\/p>\n NCAA Record: <\/strong>3:46.62 – Harrison Curley, Kenyon (2015) New York University took back-to-back heats this morning Reid Hansen<\/strong> won heat one in 3:56.17 and Ian Rainey<\/strong> claimed heat two in 3:52.56. The men hold the fifth and second seed, respectively. Both men looked smooth this morning and are expected to swim faster tonight. This event could really move NYU up in the team rankings as they disqualified their 200 medley relay in last night’s final.<\/p>\n Kenyon will also have a squad\u00a0of athletes in tonight’s final in Michael Bartholomew<\/strong> (3:56.51), Brooks McCoy<\/strong> (3:55.94) and Ian Reardon<\/strong> (3:55.09). This will be huge for them as they try to chase down Emory in the team scores. They also have one swimmer in the consolation final, Colin Reardon<\/strong> with a 3:58.39.<\/p>\n The top seed went to Denison’s Jackson Lindell<\/strong> with a 3:52.06. Lindell and Rainey swam nearly identical 100 splits so expect this to be a great race to watch tonight. Teammate Matthew Hedman<\/strong> swam to a best of 3:57.25 this morning and will join Lindell in the A final.<\/p>\n NCAA Record:\u00a0<\/strong>52.64 – Kirsten Nitz, Wheaton (IL) (2014) Waddell did not waste any time this morning blasting a 53.78 to take the top seed. This was a season best for Waddell as she looked very strong the whole way through. Expect her to be faster tonight as she had a few long walls and no one anywhere near her in her prelims swim.<\/p>\n Niamh O’Grady<\/strong> looked like herself once again taking the second seed in 54.81. She tied Grove City’s Anne Dassow<\/strong> for the second spot, and was followed closely by Denison’s Carolyn Kane<\/strong>. Both Dassow and O’Grady went best times this morning, while Kane was just two tenths off. Between these three, it could be anyone’s race to take second, but it will be hard to compete with Waddell’s speed and underwaters.<\/p>\n Emory places a pair of swimmers in the A final as well; Sanchez-Aizcorbe raced to a best of 55.03 for the fifth seed while junior Megan Campbell<\/strong> was just .01 behind for sixth. Rounding out the A final will be Kathy Lin of NYU (55.06) and Abigail Brown<\/strong> of Johns Hopkins (55.33). It took St. Thomas’ Katelyn Strauss<\/strong>‘ 56.16 to make the consolation final.<\/p>\n NCAA Record: <\/strong>46.97 – Reed Dalton, Washington University (2015) In much closer heats than the women’s event, Williams senior Ben Lin<\/strong> was able to hold off MIT’s Bouke Edskes<\/strong> and Mary Washington’s Dallas Tarkenton<\/strong> to claim the final heat in 47.97. Edskes finished in 48.26 and Tarkenton went a 48.32; these are the top three seeds headed into tonight’s final.<\/p>\n There will be eight different schools represented in tonight’s final otherwise led by Claremont-Muddscripps’ Matthew Williams<\/strong> in 48.35. He will certainly be in the mix tonight as will Albion sophomore Nate Kozycki<\/strong> in 48.49. Denison will be represented by Kenny Fox<\/strong> (48.63), Tufts will have sophomore Kingsley Bowen<\/strong> in the race (48.74) and Wisconsin-Stevens Point will have senior Sam Jekel<\/strong> (48.77).<\/p>\n NCAA Record: <\/strong>1:44.82 – Kendra Stern, Amherst (2011) Emory took the top two seeds in this event out of the final heat of morning swims. Sophomore Fiona Muir<\/strong> (1:47.73) and junior Cindy Cheng<\/strong> (1:48.25) easily won their heat; Muir dropped nearly two full seconds off her entry time while Cheng was just one tenth off. Teammate Julia Wawer<\/strong> also snuck into the A final racing to the seventh seed at a best 1:50.34.<\/p>\n Kenyon will challenge the Eagle entries with Abigail Wilson<\/strong> taking the third seed in 1:48.30 and Hannah Orbach-Mandel<\/strong> in 1:49.90. Orbach-Mandel’s best is a 1:48.7 so do not count her out despite being slightly off this morning. With a little bit faster out she should be right in the mix.<\/p>\n Nicole Zanolli<\/strong> of Washington University and Lauren Jones<\/strong> of Williams were also under 1:50 at 1:49.32 and 1:49.81. Emory’s Marissa Bergh<\/strong> took the sixteenth seed in 1:51.12, a one second drop for the senior.<\/p>\n NCAA Record: <\/strong>1:36.63 – Dennis Mulvihill, Kenyon (1988) Just .03 off the Division III NCAA record, Johns Hopkins’ Evan Holder<\/strong> took the top seed in the 200 free at 1:36.67. He swam a very controlled and even swim, and could be two to three tenths faster on his final 50 tonight so be on record-watch for sure. His morning effort was good enough to break the Division III meet record in this event.<\/p>\n His biggest challenger may be from Keene State’s Ryan Boraski<\/strong>, who came into the meet with the seventh seed. Boraski swam a best 1:37.32, but the top five swimmers all swam season bests as well. It did not look like anyone truly backed off in this event, as it was much faster than last year.<\/p>\n Fresh off his own NCAA Division III record in last night’s 500 freestyle, Arthur Conover<\/strong> of Kenyon took the third seed in 1:37.93. Walt Dauksher<\/strong> swam a best 1:37.96 for fourth and a pair of Eagles were next in line. Thomas Gordon<\/strong>\u00a0dropped nearly three seconds in 1:38.06 and was followed by Christian Baker<\/strong> in 1:38.16. Gordon is having quite the day of racing after a great split in the 200 free relay.<\/p>\n Michael Wohl<\/strong> of Johns Hopkins (1:38.34) and Karl Sarier<\/strong> of Bowdoin (1:38.49) will round out the top heat. After placing second in last night’s 500, John’s Hopkins’ Andy Greenhalgh<\/strong> will swim in the consolation final (1:39.02). Kenyon’s Robert Williams<\/strong> will be the sixteenth seed in 1:39.26.<\/p>\n NCAA Record: <\/strong>3:40.13 – Oberholzer, Kaestner, Saiz, Towsend (Kenyon, 2013) Tonight’s race between Emory and Williams will certainly be one to watch. Both teams practiced very safe starts, so it will be interesting to see who takes the win when everything is on the line tonight. Freshman Caroline Olson<\/strong> of Emory put the Eagles on top after splitting a blistering 49.93 split. This was where Williams fell off in prelims but Waddell was essentially racing herself. And realistically, can you ever count out Emma Waddell? Not with the meet she’s having.<\/p>\n Denison will likely take third as they simply do not have the backstroke speed of Cheng or Jackson. With three freshmen preceding her, senior Carolyn Kane will try to hold off the rest of the field.<\/p>\n NCAA Record: <\/strong>3:13.03 – Ono, Wilson, Baker, Smith (Emory-2015) Two Division III NCAA records fell this morning to close out the second preliminary session. In heat one, Benjamin Lin led off Williams’ relay with a 46.93 100 backstroke, breaking his own mark of 47.03 set in 2015. His splits were 22.51-24.42. He then handed off to teammates Jack Melnick<\/strong>, Timothy Kostolansky<\/strong> and Grant Johnson<\/strong> who combined for the tied-second seed in 3:16.26.<\/p>\n The other team tied for second is the Kenyon group of Ben Baturka<\/strong>, Trevor Manz<\/strong>, Jonathon Zimdars<\/strong> and Weston Carpenter<\/strong>. Manz made up huge ground for the Lords in the breaststroke leg splitting a 53.94.<\/p>\n But despite all this excitement, the true headline of the event was the new Division III NCAA record set by Sage Ono<\/strong>, Andrew Wilson<\/strong>, Mitchell Cooper<\/strong>\u00a0and Trey Kolleck<\/strong>\u00a0of Emory in heat three. Ono posted a respectable 48.20 to start things off followed by a typical Andrew Wilson show-stopping 51.91 100 breast. Mitchell Cooper then swam a 48.50 fly leg followed by Trey Kolleck with the third-fastest free split of the field in 44.35.<\/p>\n Other notable splits include Rowan’s Jesse Novak<\/strong> anchoring his relay in 43.57 and a 53.55 breaststroke leg from Washington University’s Michael Lagieski<\/strong>.
