Among those fighting for a title tonight will be\u00a0<strong>Alexandra Sumner<\/strong> (200 back),\u00a0<strong>Margaret Aroesty<\/strong> (100 breast),\u00a0<strong>Camden Murphy<\/strong> (200 fly), and a tight race between\u00a0<strong>Eli Fouts\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Reece Whitley<\/strong> in the men&#8217;s 100 breast.<\/p>\n<p>Nation&#8217;s Capital leads the team scores after last night&#8217;s races by over 200 points and returns a wide variety of swimmers to tonight&#8217;s finals setting themselves up for another run at the team title.<\/p>\n<h3>200 Back<\/h3>\n<p>The first prelims session, which was competed in short course yards, began with the women&#8217;s and men&#8217;s 200 backstroke. On the women&#8217;s side, Suburban&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alexandra Sumner<\/strong> led the way with a time of 1:53.41, over a second faster than the next closest competitor.\u00a0<strong>Erin Earley\u00a0<\/strong>of Hopkins Mariner followed in 1:54.65 for second. City of Mobile&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Paige Madden\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 1:55.82.<\/p>\n<p>Also in tonight&#8217;s final is Nation&#8217;s Capital&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lea Gwenapp<\/strong>, who finished fourth in 1:56.54. Her 14 year old teammate,\u00a0<strong>Phoebe Bacon<\/strong>, was fifth in 1:56.69.\u00a0<strong>Amanda Smith<\/strong> of Northern Kentucky Clippers placed sixth in 1:56.70.\u00a0<strong>Kirsten Romano<\/strong> of Long Island and\u00a0<strong>Madison Homovich\u00a0<\/strong>of Marlins of Raleigh finished in 1:56.92 and 1:56.93 for seventh and eighth place, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#8217;s side,\u00a0<strong>Jacob Johnson<\/strong> of NOVA of Virginia led this morning&#8217;s heats in 1:44.84. He was followed by Nation&#8217;s Capital&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Will Cumberland<\/strong>, who touched in 1:45.71 for second. Metro Atlanta&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Christopher Thames\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 1:45.92, just ahead of Academy Bullets&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Spencer Walker<\/strong>, who was fourth in 1:45.93.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Justin Grender<\/strong> of Cincinnati Marlins was fifth in 1:46.19, while\u00a0<strong>Caleb Aman\u00a0<\/strong>from Lane 4 Aquatics was sixth in 1:46.22. Seventh place went to Machine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Christian Ginieczki<\/strong>, who swam to a time of 1:46.40. Nation&#8217;s Capital&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sean Conway<\/strong> rounded out the top eight for tonight&#8217;s final in 1:46.47.<\/p>\n<h3>100 Free<\/h3>\n<p>15 year old\u00a0<strong>Katelyn Mack\u00a0<\/strong>of Nation&#8217;s Capital finished first in the women&#8217;s 100 freestyle, finishing in 49.69. She was followed by Aggie Swim Club&#8217;s<strong> Julia Cook<\/strong>, who placed second in 49.73. Condors&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Christiana Regenauer<\/strong> came in third at 49.91.\u00a0<strong>Kaitlyn Schorr<\/strong> of Southwest Stars rounded out the swimmers breaking the 50 second mark, placing fourth in 49.98.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth place went to Greater Tampa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Morgan Tankersley<\/strong> in 50.00.\u00a0<strong>Genevieve Pfeifer<\/strong> of CSP Tideriders and Patriot&#8217;s <strong>Madeline Smith<\/strong>\u00a0tied sixth in 50.02. Aquajet&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Carly Quast\u00a0<\/strong>finished in 50.09 for eighth.<\/p>\n<p>The second men&#8217;s event was the 500 freestyle.\u00a0<strong>Robert Freeman\u00a0<\/strong>of Baylor finished first this morning in 4:23.27. Dayton Raiders&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Eric Knowles<\/strong> came second in 4:24.14. Last night&#8217;s champion in the 1000, Nation&#8217;s Capital&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matthew Hirschberger<\/strong>, was third in 4:24.56. Team Greeville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Talmadge Davis\u00a0<\/strong>finished fourth in 4:24.82.<\/p>\n<p>Naval Academy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>William Iv Roberts<\/strong> placed fifth in 4:26.54. He was followed by another Nation&#8217;s Capital swimmer,\u00a0<strong>Samuel Pomajevich<\/strong>, who swam to 4:26.61 for sixth. Lane 4&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Peyton Werner<\/strong> and Redbird&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Colton Paulson<\/strong> were seventh and eighth, finishing in 4:26.89 and 4:27.68, respectively.<\/p>\n<h3>100 Breast<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Margaret Aroesty<\/strong> of Long Island finished first in the women&#8217;s 100 breaststroke in 1:00.79, She was followed by Houston&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kylie Powers<\/strong>, who was second in 1:00.98. Third place went to\u00a0<strong>Ema Rajic<\/strong> of the Hudson Explorers with a time of 1:01.52. Just behind Rajic was Academy Bullets&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alexis Yager<\/strong> for fourth in 1:01.55.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingrid Wall<\/strong>, representing New Trier, finished fifth in 1:02.04. Mundelein Mustang&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Valerie Tarazi<\/strong> placed sixth in 1:02.13. Seventh place went to\u00a0<strong>Abigail Harter<\/strong> of Nation&#8217;s Capital in 1:02.47. Marlins of Raleigh&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Abigail Arens<\/strong> earned the eighth spot in tonight&#8217;s final in 1:02.50.<\/p>\n<p>Rockville Montgomery&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Eli Fouts<\/strong> is tonight&#8217;s top seed in the men&#8217;s 100 breaststroke with a time of 53.96. Penn Charter&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Reece Whitley<\/strong> was second in 54.18.\u00a0<strong>Spencer Rowe<\/strong> of Nation&#8217;s Capital placed third in 54.75, while\u00a0<strong>William Myhre<\/strong>, representing St. Charles, was fourth in 54.77.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth place went to Manhattan Makos&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Dillon Hillis<\/strong> in 54.92.\u00a0<strong>Charles Scheinfeld\u00a0<\/strong>of New Trier and\u00a0<strong>Jack Dalmolin\u00a0<\/strong>of Chattahoochee Gold tied for sixth in 55.00. Nation&#8217;s Capital&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Timothy W<\/strong><strong>u<\/strong> finished eighth in 55.22.<\/p>\n<h3>200 Fly<\/h3>\n<p>The women&#8217;s 200 butterfly was led by Highlanders&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Carley Lowe<\/strong>, who finished in 1:57.45.\u00a0Club Wolverine&#8217;s <strong>Sierra Schmidt<\/strong>, last night&#8217;s 1000 champion, was just behind her for second in 1:57.81.\u00a0<strong>Christin Rockway<\/strong> of Tampa Bay was third in 1:58.43. Marlins of Raleigh&#8217;s\u00a0Homovich was fourth in 1:58.53, and Nation&#8217;s Capital&#8217;s Harter was close behind in 1:58.56 for fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Razorback&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Luciana Thomas<\/strong> placed sixth in 1:59.00. Hilton Head&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Chloe Corbitt<\/strong> and\u00a0Suburban&#8217;s\u00a0Sumner tied for seventh place in 1:57.05.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Camden Murphy<\/strong> of Kingfish Aquatics, fresh off a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/camden-murphy-clocks-100-fly-state-record-at-michigan-lower-peninsula-d1-states\/\" target=\"_blank\">Michigan D1 Lower Peninsula 100 fly record,<\/a>\u00a0turned in the top time of the morning for the men&#8217;s 200 fly, stopping the clock at a 1:45.91. \u00a0Nation&#8217;s Capital picked up the second and third place seeds as teammates\u00a0<strong>Samuel Pomajevich<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Darren Durocher\u00a0<\/strong>posted times of 1:46.07 and 1:46.37 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Marlins of Raleigh&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zachary Brown\u00a0<\/strong>posted a fourth place finish of 1:46.38, followed by Baylor&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Peter Lochmaier<\/strong> and his time of 1:46.98.<\/p>\n<p>Navel Academy Aquatic Club&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>William Roberts<\/strong> (1:47.20), Machine Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Christian Ginieczki<\/strong> (1:47.33), and Long Island Aquatic&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Orry Zayit\u00a0<\/strong>(1:47.51) rounded out the top eight qualifiers.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><em>All results can be found on Meet Mobile &#8211; 2017 NCSA Spring Championship<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2017 NCSA Junior National Championships continued with a wide variety of swimmers grabbing the top seeds in their respective events.
