The 2017 NCSA Junior National Championships continued with a wide variety of swimmers grabbing the top seeds in their respective events. Among those fighting for a title tonight will be\u00a0Alexandra Sumner<\/strong> (200 back),\u00a0Margaret Aroesty<\/strong> (100 breast),\u00a0Camden Murphy<\/strong> (200 fly), and a tight race between\u00a0Eli Fouts\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Reece Whitley<\/strong> in the men’s 100 breast.<\/p>\n

Nation’s Capital leads the team scores after last night’s races by over 200 points and returns a wide variety of swimmers to tonight’s finals setting themselves up for another run at the team title.<\/p>\n

200 Back<\/h3>\n

The first prelims session, which was competed in short course yards, began with the women’s and men’s 200 backstroke. On the women’s side, Suburban’s\u00a0Alexandra Sumner<\/strong> led the way with a time of 1:53.41, over a second faster than the next closest competitor.\u00a0Erin Earley\u00a0<\/strong>of Hopkins Mariner followed in 1:54.65 for second. City of Mobile’s\u00a0Paige Madden\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 1:55.82.<\/p>\n

Also in tonight’s final is Nation’s Capital’s\u00a0Lea Gwenapp<\/strong>, who finished fourth in 1:56.54. Her 14 year old teammate,\u00a0Phoebe Bacon<\/strong>, was fifth in 1:56.69.\u00a0Amanda Smith<\/strong> of Northern Kentucky Clippers placed sixth in 1:56.70.\u00a0Kirsten Romano<\/strong> of Long Island and\u00a0Madison Homovich\u00a0<\/strong>of Marlins of Raleigh finished in 1:56.92 and 1:56.93 for seventh and eighth place, respectively.<\/p>\n

On the men’s side,\u00a0Jacob Johnson<\/strong> of NOVA of Virginia led this morning’s heats in 1:44.84. He was followed by Nation’s Capital’s\u00a0Will Cumberland<\/strong>, who touched in 1:45.71 for second. Metro Atlanta’s\u00a0Christopher Thames\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 1:45.92, just ahead of Academy Bullets’s\u00a0Spencer Walker<\/strong>, who was fourth in 1:45.93.<\/p>\n

Justin Grender<\/strong> of Cincinnati Marlins was fifth in 1:46.19, while\u00a0Caleb Aman\u00a0<\/strong>from Lane 4 Aquatics was sixth in 1:46.22. Seventh place went to Machine’s\u00a0Christian Ginieczki<\/strong>, who swam to a time of 1:46.40. Nation’s Capital’s\u00a0Sean Conway<\/strong> rounded out the top eight for tonight’s final in 1:46.47.<\/p>\n

100 Free<\/h3>\n

15 year old\u00a0Katelyn Mack\u00a0<\/strong>of Nation’s Capital finished first in the women’s 100 freestyle, finishing in 49.69. She was followed by Aggie Swim Club’s Julia Cook<\/strong>, who placed second in 49.73. Condors’\u00a0Christiana Regenauer<\/strong> came in third at 49.91.\u00a0Kaitlyn Schorr<\/strong> of Southwest Stars rounded out the swimmers breaking the 50 second mark, placing fourth in 49.98.<\/p>\n

Fifth place went to Greater Tampa’s\u00a0Morgan Tankersley<\/strong> in 50.00.\u00a0Genevieve Pfeifer<\/strong> of CSP Tideriders and Patriot’s Madeline Smith<\/strong>\u00a0tied sixth in 50.02. Aquajet’s\u00a0Carly Quast\u00a0<\/strong>finished in 50.09 for eighth.<\/p>\n

The second men’s event was the 500 freestyle.\u00a0Robert Freeman\u00a0<\/strong>of Baylor finished first this morning in 4:23.27. Dayton Raiders’\u00a0Eric Knowles<\/strong> came second in 4:24.14. Last night’s champion in the 1000, Nation’s Capital’s\u00a0Matthew Hirschberger<\/strong>, was third in 4:24.56. Team Greeville’s\u00a0Talmadge Davis\u00a0<\/strong>finished fourth in 4:24.82.<\/p>\n

Naval Academy’s\u00a0William Iv Roberts<\/strong> placed fifth in 4:26.54. He was followed by another Nation’s Capital swimmer,\u00a0Samuel Pomajevich<\/strong>, who swam to 4:26.61 for sixth. Lane 4’s\u00a0Peyton Werner<\/strong> and Redbird’s\u00a0Colton Paulson<\/strong> were seventh and eighth, finishing in 4:26.89 and 4:27.68, respectively.<\/p>\n

100 Breast<\/h3>\n

Margaret Aroesty<\/strong> of Long Island finished first in the women’s 100 breaststroke in 1:00.79, She was followed by Houston’s\u00a0Kylie Powers<\/strong>, who was second in 1:00.98. Third place went to\u00a0Ema Rajic<\/strong> of the Hudson Explorers with a time of 1:01.52. Just behind Rajic was Academy Bullets’s\u00a0Alexis Yager<\/strong> for fourth in 1:01.55.<\/p>\n

Ingrid Wall<\/strong>, representing New Trier, finished fifth in 1:02.04. Mundelein Mustang’s\u00a0Valerie Tarazi<\/strong> placed sixth in 1:02.13. Seventh place went to\u00a0Abigail Harter<\/strong> of Nation’s Capital in 1:02.47. Marlins of Raleigh’s\u00a0Abigail Arens<\/strong> earned the eighth spot in tonight’s final in 1:02.50.<\/p>\n

Rockville Montgomery’s\u00a0Eli Fouts<\/strong> is tonight’s top seed in the men’s 100 breaststroke with a time of 53.96. Penn Charter’s\u00a0Reece Whitley<\/strong> was second in 54.18.\u00a0Spencer Rowe<\/strong> of Nation’s Capital placed third in 54.75, while\u00a0William Myhre<\/strong>, representing St. Charles, was fourth in 54.77.<\/p>\n

Fifth place went to Manhattan Makos’s\u00a0Dillon Hillis<\/strong> in 54.92.\u00a0Charles Scheinfeld\u00a0<\/strong>of New Trier and\u00a0Jack Dalmolin\u00a0<\/strong>of Chattahoochee Gold tied for sixth in 55.00. Nation’s Capital’s\u00a0Timothy W<\/strong>u<\/strong> finished eighth in 55.22.<\/p>\n

200 Fly<\/h3>\n

The women’s 200 butterfly was led by Highlanders’s\u00a0Carley Lowe<\/strong>, who finished in 1:57.45.\u00a0Club Wolverine’s Sierra Schmidt<\/strong>, last night’s 1000 champion, was just behind her for second in 1:57.81.\u00a0Christin Rockway<\/strong> of Tampa Bay was third in 1:58.43. Marlins of Raleigh’s\u00a0Homovich was fourth in 1:58.53, and Nation’s Capital’s Harter was close behind in 1:58.56 for fifth.<\/p>\n

Razorback’s\u00a0Luciana Thomas<\/strong> placed sixth in 1:59.00. Hilton Head’s\u00a0Chloe Corbitt<\/strong> and\u00a0Suburban’s\u00a0Sumner tied for seventh place in 1:57.05.<\/p>\n

Camden Murphy<\/strong> of Kingfish Aquatics, fresh off a new Michigan D1 Lower Peninsula 100 fly record,<\/a>\u00a0turned in the top time of the morning for the men’s 200 fly, stopping the clock at a 1:45.91. \u00a0Nation’s Capital picked up the second and third place seeds as teammates\u00a0Samuel Pomajevich<\/strong> and\u00a0Darren Durocher\u00a0<\/strong>posted times of 1:46.07 and 1:46.37 respectively.<\/p>\n

Marlins of Raleigh’s\u00a0Zachary Brown\u00a0<\/strong>posted a fourth place finish of 1:46.38, followed by Baylor’s\u00a0Peter Lochmaier<\/strong> and his time of 1:46.98.<\/p>\n

Navel Academy Aquatic Club’s\u00a0William Roberts<\/strong> (1:47.20), Machine Aquatics’\u00a0Christian Ginieczki<\/strong> (1:47.33), and Long Island Aquatic’s\u00a0Orry Zayit\u00a0<\/strong>(1:47.51) rounded out the top eight qualifiers.<\/p>\n
