THE last night of action at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Mount Hood featured a podium double from YMCA Westside&#39;s Tyler Messerschmidt as long course meter swimming closed.<\/p>\n<p>DU Hilltopper Mackenzie Stein, 16, won the women&#39;s 200 IM in 2:19.08, while Mount Hood&#39;s Laura Miller took second in 2:20.30. Lake Oswego&#39;s Karen Turner, 16, touched third in 2:20.59. Messerschmidt claimed the men&#39;s 200 IM in 2:06.85. Phoenix&#39;s Daniel Hatfield placed second in 2:08.17, while Tucson Ford&#39;s Juan Flores took third in 2:08.27. <\/p>\n<p>DU Hilltopper Paige Newell hit the wall in 17:17.62 to win the women&#39;s 1500 free, while Boulder&#39;s Amanda Richey, 14, (17:20.02) and Corvallis&#39; Sloan Storie (17:24.67) completed the top three. Colorado Springs&#39; Patrick Scally snagged the men&#39;s 1500 free in 15:59.20. Mission Aurora&#39;s John Martens, 16, finished second in 16:03.24, while The Dolphins&#39; Cameron Stitt, 15, rounded out the top three in 16:12.01. <\/p>\n<p>Roseburg&#39;s Kaylin Bing raced to victory in the women&#39;s 50 free with a 26.10. Swim Utah&#39;s Natalie Edge took second in 26.22, while Boise YMCA&#39;s Stephanie North touched third in 26.24. Tucson Ford&#39;s Masayu Kishida placed first in the men&#39;s 50 free with a 22.67, while Messerschmidt earned his second podium of the night with a second-place 23.25.
